Rolex has unveiled the new Land-Dweller in two sizes, 36 mm and 40 mm, and a range of materials. Prices from €14,450
Rolex has unveiled the Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller, a new model with integrated bracelet offered in two sizes, 36 mm and 40 mm, and a range of materials.
The case features a redesigned fluted bezel with wider fluting than other Classic models, giving it a contemporary character. On precious metal versions, it may also be set with trapeze-cut diamonds. Guaranteed waterproof to 100 metres (330 feet), the Oyster case ensures robust protection for the movement.
Developed specifically for this model, the case includes modifications to the waterproofing system around the crystal to accommodate the technical satin finish on the upper middle case. Its curved, polished sides are chamfered, with a polished bevel along the top edges.
The Land-Dweller is fitted with the new Flat Jubilee bracelet, designed to integrate seamlessly with the case. A mix of polished and satin finishes enhances the overall design.
The bezel, whether fluted or diamond-set, frames a finely executed honeycomb-patterned dial.
A transparent sapphire case back reveals the new calibre 7135, a self-winding mechanical movement, powering the hours, minutes, seconds, and date functions in both the Land-Dweller 36 and Land-Dweller 40.
An evolution of calibre 7140, which powers the 1908 model, it operates at 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 66 hours.
Its regulating system includes the innovative Dynapulse, a sequential distribution escapement made from silicon, along with a new oscillator, ensuring optimal performance. Bridges decorated with Rolex Côtes de Genève and a cut-out yellow gold oscillating weight enhance the movement's aesthetics.
The Land-Dweller 40 is available in white Rolesor, which combines Oystersteel and white gold, with a white honeycomb-patterned dial, in 18 ct Everose gold with the same white dial, and in platinum with an ice blue dial. This colour is reserved for Rolex’s platinum watches and is also decorated with the honeycomb motif.
The honeycomb dial design is finely executed with stylized cells in subtle relief. The white version has a satin finish, while the ice blue dial features a sunray finish. A femtosecond laser cuts the structure and etches the grooves between each cell.
The 6 and 9 numerals, inspired by the Explorer and Air-King, have open centres for a modern touch. The index hour markers are fully coated with luminescent material using a patented process that employs a harder substance while maintaining the same glow, colour, and daylight hue.
The rectilinear hour and minute hands are coated with the same luminescent material, while the seconds hand features a counterweight shaped like a honeycomb cell. An angled flange, matching the dial colour, frames the display and features a pad-printed minute track graduated to the half-second.
The Flat Jubilee bracelet reinterprets the classic Jubilee bracelet from 1945 with a fully flat five-piece link structure. The polished centre links are slightly raised, while the outer links have a satin finish with polished chamfered edges that create a continuous light effect along the Oyster case.
A newly developed attachment system ensures seamless integration with the case, incorporating ceramic inserts to protect the spring bar from wear. A patent application covers this assembly. The bracelet features a concealed folding Crownclasp.
Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller 40 and 36 meet the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This in-house certification, conducted after COSC approval, ensures top performance in precision, power reserve, waterproofness, and self-winding. Rolex guarantees a precision of minus two to plus two seconds per day, stricter than COSC standards. Each certified watch comes with a green seal and a five-year international guarantee.
The prices for the Land-Dweller 40 are €15,350 for reference 127334 in Oystersteel with a white gold bezel, €47,400 for reference 127335 in Everose gold, and €64,200 for reference 127336 in platinum.
For the corresponding 36 mm versions, the prices are €14,450 for reference 127234 in Oystersteel with a white gold bezel, €43,300 for reference 127235 in Everose gold, and €59,800 for reference 127236 in platinum.
