Eberhard unveils the Contodat Collection, including the Contodat Automatic ref. 41156 and the Contodat Chronographe ref. 31156. Prices from CHF 3,200
Eberhard & Co. introduced the Contodat at Watches and Wonders 2025 (April 1-7), marking a new chapter for the Swiss brand with its first collection of sporty timepieces featuring integrated bracelets.
The collection includes two models: the time-only Contodat Automatic ref. 41156 and the Contodat Chronographe ref. 31156 with chronograph functions.
Available in a range of colours, all new references feature orange accents on the dial, a detail that pays tribute to a 1970s model from the brand’s archives.
In fact, while the Contodat name originates from a trademark registered in 1955, the design of the current collection is inspired by that 1970s reference, developed under the leadership of then-President Palmiro Monti.
That earlier watch, created during the early years of the quartz era, was among the Maison’s first mechanical chronographs to move away from traditional aesthetics. It featured a graphic case design and a dial accented by a contrasting orange seconds hand.
The modern Contodat collection references this historical model both stylistically and symbolically, with the use of orange on the dial serving as a visual link.
Both the Contodat Automatic and the Contodat Chronographe feature 39 mm cases crafted from 316L stainless steel, alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces to highlight their dynamic lines. The same finishes are used for the integrated steel bracelet.
The screw-down crown, embossed with the Eberhard “E”, helps ensure water resistance to 100 metres / 330 feet.
The sunburst-finished dials shimmer as they catch the light and are protected by domed sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment on the inner side. The total height is 11.30 mm for the time-only version and 13.90 mm for the chronograph.
The hour and minute hands, along with the applied indices, are filled with Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility in low-light conditions. The hands introduce a new design for the Maison, with a three-dimensional shape that combines different textures and a central section containing the luminous material.
On the time-only model, the small seconds subdial is positioned at 9 o’clock, balanced by a date window at 3 o’clock. The trapezoidal date aperture, with an applied frame, draws inspiration from the 1970s reference.
At launch, five dial variations are available: blue (41156.01), green (41156.02), argenté (41156.03), grey (41156.04), and black (41156.05).
The Contodat Automatic is powered by the Sellita SW 290-1 calibre, a self-winding mechanical movement beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). It features a hacking seconds function and offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
In the chronograph version, a tachymeter scale calibrated in km/h over 1000 units encircles the dial. The date window moves to 6 o’clock, while the continuous small seconds subdial sits at 9 o’clock and the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, forming a balanced bicompax layout.
The 45-minute totaliser recalls the functionality of the 1970s model designed under Monti.
A 1/5th of a second subdivision is included on the minute scale for more precise readings of elapsed time.
Dial options include blue (31156.01), green (31156.02), argenté with contrasting blue counters for a "panda" effect (31156.03), and argenté with blue counters and orange Super-LumiNova (31156.04).
The Contodat Chronographe houses the Sellita SW 510 BH, a self-winding chronograph movement also operating at 4 Hz. This cam-actuated and highly reliable calibre delivers a power reserve of around 48 hours.
The casebacks on both models are made of steel, with a satin-brushed centre and polished edge. They are screw-in and decorated with golden engravings, including the Latin phrase UBI TU IBI EGO (“where you will be, there I will be”), a message symbolising enduring values and a forward-looking mindset. As General Manager Mario Peserico explains: “Our Contodat collection is an act of loyalty to mechanical watchmaking, in which the brand has believed from the very beginning and which continues to guide our vision of the future.”
To maintain aesthetic and functional continuity with the case, the integrated bracelet is fitted with Eberhard & Co.’s exclusive 2CLICK clasp, combining ease of use with added security against accidental opening. The clasp bears the Shield emblem (Eberhard’s signature symbol) also echoed in the design of the inner blades.
Indicative prices for the new Eberhard & Co. Contodat models are CHF 3,200 for the Contodat Automatic (ref. 41156) and CHF 4,400 for the Contodat Chronographe (ref. 31156). eberhard-co-watches.ch
