Speake Marin introduces the Ripples Gold, the collection’s first gold execution

Speake Marin has presented the Ripples Gold, the first gold model in the Ripples collection.

Previously produced only in stainless steel, the Ripples is now also available in a precious 40.30 mm x 9.20 mm case crafted from 4N rose gold sourced from an ethical supply chain certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). RJC is an international not-for-profit standards and certification organisation that certifies respect for human and labour rights and environmental sustainability in diamond, gold and platinum group metals processing.

Combining square and circle shapes with satin-brushed surfaces and polished edges, the case of the Ripples has been designed for comfort on the wrist.

Comfort is further enhanced by the alloy used for this version. 4N rose gold is an 18-carat gold alloy consisting of 75% gold, 9% silver and 16% copper, a composition that provides a warm and delicate shade, resistant to air, humidity, or acids, and is also fully biocompatible and well tolerated even by those with the most sensitive skin.

Thanks to its screw-down crown, featuring a fluted decoration and a laser-engraved logo, the watch is water resistant to 5 ATM (50 metres / 165 feet).

Protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, the dial consists of a rhodium-plated brass plate engraved with the horizontal waves that give the collection its name, each of which is meticulously satin-brushed by hand.

The zapon finish—a protective clear lacquer often used to prevent oxidation—gives the dial a golden-brown light reflection, an unprecedented shade in the collection that beautifully complements the warm tone of the rose gold case.

The polished, cut-diamond hour markers and hands are perfectly legible in contrasting 4N gold. The shape of the hour and minute hands echoes the famous Big Ben and pays homage to the British origins of founder Peter Speake-Marin.

The signature small seconds counter stands out at 1:30 with its 4N rose gold-plated sunray finish.

This unusual arrangement required a complete redesign of the movement to ensure that the gear train does not interfere with the time-setting mechanism.

Visible through the transparent porthole of the screw-down case back, the in-house manufacture calibre SMA03-T is equipped with a fully integrated micro-rotor in Tungsten, enhanced by a laser-engraved decoration with alternating silver and 5N gold-plated segments radiating from the centre.

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), this 144-component self-winding movement offers a 52-hour power reserve.

The mainplate is enhanced by a circular graining finish, while the rhodium-plated bridges are decorated with a Côtes de Genève motif and feature bevelled, hand-polished edges.

The Mocha-coloured calf leather strap with an embossed denim motif is attached to large, polished central lugs that have been specially designed for seamless integration. Other strap options are available.
