Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Professional SLA081, 60th Anniversary Limited Edition

The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of Seiko’s diver’s watch. The brand’s heritage in dive watches began in 1965 with Japan’s first diver’s watch.

Known to fans as the 62MAS, the 1965 diver’s watch incorporated an automatic mechanical movement and delivered 150 metres water resistance

In commemoration of this milestone, the Japanese watchmaker has prepared some special editions for the Prospex collection.

Today, we present the Prospex Marinemaster Professional ref. SLA081, a diver’s watch ensuring water resistance to depths of 600 meters / 2,000 feet, suitable for saturation diving.

Part of Seiko’s flagship series for diver’s watches, Marinemaster, the style of this model reprises elements of an early and iconic Seiko diver’s watch that was introduced in 1968, while its construction finds inspiration in another innovative Seiko diver born in 1975.

Measuring 45.4 mm x 16 mm, the one-piece titanium case, features a specially developed L-shaped gasket to prevent helium infiltration, eliminating the need for an escape valve.

The screws securing the components that hold the bezel to the case are on the back, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

The stainless-steel bezel insert has been treated with diamond-like carbon coating to achieve a surface hardness approximately six times greater than it would otherwise be, making it significantly more resistant to scratches. 

Inspired by Shinkai, meaning 'deep sea’, the textured dial features a blue gradient that deepens toward the outer edge.

To ensure reliability and safety, the indexes are formed as part of the dial through a molding process and will stay firmly in place, even under impact. A thick, clear paint enhances the beauty of the dial adding depth. The dual-curved sapphire crystal is teated with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface.

Behind the solid case back, the new Caliber 8L45 operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Seiko’s proprietary Spron alloy is used for both the mainspring and balance spring, ensuring durability and resistance to rust and wear.

A longer, thinner mainspring delivers a 72-hour power reserve. Its accuracy ranges from +10 to -5 seconds per day.

The newly developed bracelet features rounded links designed to provide a flexible and comfortable fit.
