Read our review of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph 2025 with lightweight titanium case, automatic movement and F1-inspired design. Price: €4,850
Last January, TAG Heuer reinforced its strong ties with Formula 1 by returning as the sport’s Official Timekeeper and simultaneously unveiling the new Formula 1 Chronograph, a motorsport-inspired timepiece available in five variations.
Following our introductory article, where we detailed each model, we had the chance to wear and test the black-and-blue reference CBZ2084.FT8097 for a few days. We are now delighted to share our impressions and images.
With 239 wins, 613 podiums, 9,471 points, 11 World Constructors’ Championships, and 15 World Drivers’ Championships earned through its team partnerships, TAG Heuer is one of the most successful brands in Formula 1 history.
Introduced in the 1980s, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch further strengthened the brand’s deep-rooted connection to the sport, also thanks to its sponsorships of legendary drivers like Ayrton Senna (for more, read our feature article "The history of TAG Heuer").
The latest generation of Formula 1 watch is a sporty, self-winding mechanical chronograph housed in a 44 mm x 14.5 mm case crafted from lightweight Grade 2 titanium with a matte black DLC coating.
The Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating of the case is not only used for its bold appearance. In fact, this treatment also improves resistance to abrasion and corrosion.
The design has been streamlined to evoke the aerodynamic lines of Formula 1 cars.
The fixed bezel features micro-perforations, a reference to the brake discs on high-performance vehicles, along with a black DLC-coated aluminium insert bearing a tachymeter scale—an essential element of any automotive chronograph.
A coloured ring between the case and bezel mirrors the dial accents and lacquered ring of the screwed-down crown, which helps ensure water resistance up to 200 metres / 660 feet for maximum reliability in various conditions.
The shaped pushers further enhance the watch’s mechanical feel.
Despite its robust size, the watch sits comfortably on average-sized wrists, thanks to its short lugs and flexible black rubber strap with blue rims, secured by a steel pin buckle with a black DLC coating and TAG Heuer engraving. For reference, the wrist shown in the photographs measures 17.8 cm / 7 inches."
Protected by a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, the black opaline dial is distinguished by a blue lacquered track and a white flange with a 60-second scale that encircle it.
The three counters are arranged in a '6-9-12' tri-compax configuration.
The chronograph functions are indicated by the blue hands: central seconds, 30 minutes at 12 o’clock and 12 hours at 6 o’clock. The running seconds are displayed at 9 o'clock
Adding to the modern, technical aesthetic, the dynamic, automotive-inspired applied indexes and the skeletonized hour and minute hands complete the design.
Indexes and hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova, which glows green in low-light conditions for enhanced visibility.
The screw-down solid caseback is made in black DLC Grade 2 titanium and decorated with a checkered pattern, synonymous with the world of F1.
Behind it, the chronograph Calibre 16 features a cam-actuated mechanism which guarantees great reliability. We also liked the smooth start/stop and reset operations offering a satisfying feel.
Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the self-winding movement offers a 42-hour power reserve.
Combining excellent performance with a striking design in a lightweight case, the new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph model, ref. CBZ2084.FT8097, is priced at €4,850 / US$4,900. Reinforcing the brand's deep connection with the world of motorsport, this timepiece delivers both functionality and flair, making it a standout piece in the brand's Formula 1 collection. tagheuer.com
