M.A.D.Editions: introducing the M.A.D.2 by Eric Giroud

After the M.A.D.1 and M.A.D.1S, M.A.D.Editions is unveiling today the totally new M.A.D.2.

Designed by Eric Giroud, a longtime MB&F Friend, this timepiece is inspired by the  spirit of 1990s club culture and its endless nights on the dance floor.

Eric Giroud has been designing MB&F pieces for 20 years and it was only natural that he would take the lead on this project on the 20th anniversary of MB&F, the independent Haute Horlogerie brand behind M.A.D. Editions.

The watch comes in a 42 mm x 12.3 mm case crafted from 316L stainless steel and shaped like a rounded pebble. 

Water-resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet, it is equipped with a top sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on both faces.

The M.A.D.2’s raised central subdials, which display the hours and minutes, take inspiration from DJ turntables. The central dial beneath them features grooves and satin finishes that evoke the texture of vinyl records.

Encircling this is the platter, referencing the stroboscopic band of the Technics SL-1200, complete with Super-LumiNova stop pins. 

With each movement of the wrist, the platter rotates, visually reinforcing the timepiece’s dynamic character and inspiration. Watch the video at the end of this article to see it in action.

The stroboscopic platter is in fact the automatic winding rotor, visible from both the front and back of the watch. On the reverse side, an off-centered gyroscopic rotor adds a dynamic visual element, further enhancing the timepiece’s mechanical intrigue.

The small metal markers, resembling guitar picks, are not hands but fixed indexes that indicate the jumping hour and trailing minutes at the center of the watch.

The movement of choice is the same La Joux-Perret G101 Calibre found in the M.A.D.1S, now enhanced with a bespoke jumping hour module developed by MB&F. Operating at a frequency of 28,000 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), it offers a power reserve of 68 hours. 

Completed by a leather strap with a stainless steel folding buckle, the M.A.D.Editions M.A.D.2 by Eric Giroud has been presented in two variations: an Orange edition for the Tribe & Friends (the owners of MB&F machines & the over 100 suppliers who help in the creation of the MB&F Machines), and a Green one for the raffle. The price is CHF 2,900 + VAT.
