Glashütte Original unveils two new variations of the Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase in steel with silver and copper dials. Price €12,400
Glashütte Original has presented two new variations of the Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase, a refined model that we greatly enjoyed in our review of the galvanic grey dial version last November (read it here).
Both versions are housed in a 40 mm x 12.2 mm stainless steel case with a slender bezel and a mix of satin-finished and polished surfaces. They are available with either a silver or rose-coloured dial and feature Roman numerals.
Inspired by historical design elements from Glashütte Original’s archives of the 19th and 20th centuries, these models reflect 180 years of watchmaking tradition.
Since the first watchmakers settled in Glashütte in 1845, the goal has been to craft high-quality timepieces for everyday wear, a guiding principle that continues today in the Senator Excellence line.
The frosted silver (ref. 1-36-24-05-02) and frosted copper (ref. 1-36-24-04-02) dials draw inspiration from the rich mineral deposits of the Ore Mountains.
The Roman numerals, applied by hand, are made of solid gold and coated in blue. They perfectly complement the blued and polished poire hands, along with the seconds hand featuring Glashütte Original’s double-G symbol.
At 4 o’clock, Glashütte Original’s signature Panorama Date ensures exceptional legibility at a glance, displaying white numerals against a matte blue background using two concentric date discs. Unlike conventional designs, the numerals appear seamlessly without a central vertical bar, as the discs are mounted on the same level.
Positioned between 10 and 11 o’clock, a handcrafted silver-toned moon traces its path beneath a curved aperture in the dial, standing out against the galvanic blue night sky.
A fine-toothed gear ensures the exceptional accuracy of the moon phase display: once correctly set, and provided the watch runs continuously, it will not require manual adjustment for 122 years.
All functions can be conveniently adjusted via the crown, eliminating the need for additional correctors.
The transparent sapphire crystal caseback reveals the finely finished Calibre 36-24, a self-winding movement operating at 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). Thanks to an optimised spring barrel, it offers an impressive power reserve of at least 100 hours (more than four days).
The silicon balance spring ensures resilience against magnetic fields, corrosion, and temperature fluctuations, enhancing reliability for daily wear.
The bi-directional skeletonised rotor, adorned with a skeletonised double-G logo, allows an unobstructed view of the classic Glashütte three-quarter plate architecture.
Finishing techniques such as perlage, sunburst decoration, stripe finish, bevelling, and polishing highlight the movement’s craftsmanship. The galvanised balance cock with swan-neck fine adjustment is hand-engraved.
An innovative bayonet mount secures the movement inside the case with a simple twist, much like mounting a camera lens. This design enhances shock resistance while simplifying future maintenance, ensuring the watch’s long-term durability.
Both models are offered with a variety of strap and bracelet options, including alligator leather straps, synthetic straps, or a stainless steel bracelet.
The new Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase models will be available from March 2025 at all authorised Glashütte Original retailers, starting at €12,400. glashuette-original.com
