Just ahead of the Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025 exhibition (April 1-7), Swiss independent watchmaker Armin Strom is presenting the Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition Black, a Haute Horlogerie creation featuring two independent movements, synchronized through the natural phenomenon of resonance, within a single timepiece that displays two time zones.

Following the First Edition, launched in August 2024 and crafted in white gold with a sky-blue and black design, the new Manufacture Edition Black is made of stainless steel and features a striking black dial that further highlights this model’s unique architecture.

The 39 mm x 9.05 mm case, whose dynamic lines are highlighted by alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces, houses the Armin Strom manufacture caliber ARF22, a hand-wound resonance movement, the 18th in-house caliber developed under the direction of Claude Greisler, master watchmaker and co-founder of Armin Strom Manufacture with Serge Michel.

At its core, two independent oscillators synchronize in anti-phase through the natural phenomenon of resonance, enhancing precision. In this process, oscillating mechanisms exchange vibrational energy, influencing each other's rate. 

Armin Strom has perfected this principle in watchmaking by linking the twin balance wheels with a pulsating clutch spring, which efficiently transfers vibrations between them and ensure they oscillate in perfect harmony.

Operating at 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour), this 231-part movement features twin mainspring barrels, delivering a 42-hour power reserve. Wound via the crown at 4 o’clock, the caliber also incorporates two separate gear trains to independently drive the dual time displays.

On the dial side, under a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, the synchronized motion of the balance wheels and the pulsation of the clutch spring offer a kinetic spectacle. But beyond aesthetics, the Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance sets itself apart with its fully independent time-setting functionality. 

Most dual time zone watches allow for separate hour adjustments, with only a few permitting half-hour settings. Here, both hours and minutes can be independently set on each of the two dials, offering true flexibility for global travelers.

The two symmetric time dials feature a black grenage finish, surrounded by snailed black chapter rings set with applied polished baton indexes that complement the faceted hands. 

The ratchet click system delivers a captivating animation on the dial side during winding, making even this functional aspect a source of fascination.

The exhibition case back reveals the movement’s distinctive symmetrical architecture, further emphasizing its technical refinement.

The watch is elegantly complemented by a glossy taupe alligator strap secured to the wrist by a stainless steel pin buckle.

Water resistance is rated to 5 ATM (50 metres / 165 feet).
