With the Hand Made 2, Greubel Forsey takes watchmaking to the highest level of craftsmanship. Every part, whether visible or hidden, is made, finished, and assembled by hand with absolute precision.

Over 5,000 hours are needed to complete the 270 components of this four-handed timepiece, which includes hours and minutes, small seconds, and power reserve. Remarkably, 96% of this work is done by hand.

Its 40.9 mm x 12.80 mm case is crafted from white gold and offers water resistance up to 30 metres (100 feet).

Except for five components (sapphire crystals, case gaskets, spring bars, mainspring, and most jewels), all parts are crafted by hand using traditional tools like precision lathes, jig borers, and pantographs. Even the conical jewel for the power reserve indicator is made by hand.

Each component is manually crafted with precision to within a few microns, achieving the same accuracy as modern CNC machines. The entire watch is assembled by a single watchmaker.

Since 2012, Greubel Forsey has been reviving traditional methods for crafting balance springs, essential for timekeeping precision. Each spring is made from a specially chosen alloy and individually fine-tuned by a skilled watchmaker. The process, which involves coiling, cutting, and adjusting the curves, ensures perfect synchronization with the balance wheel. The movement operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 72 hours.

Five artisanal finishes enhance the visual appeal of the barrel and balance bridges: frosted, black-polished, straight-grained, polished flanks and bevels, and the polished chamfers accented by olive-domed jewels set in gold chatons.

The hand-frosted German silver contrasts beautifully with the Grand Feu enamel dials for the hours, small seconds, and power reserve. Blued steel hands, red rubies, golden reflections of wheels and barrels, and the bright edges of polished steel bridges add chromatic depth to every component.

Only two to three Hand Made 2 timepieces will be produced each year by Greubel Forsey, underscoring the brand’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship.
