Vacheron Constantin kicks off the celebration of its 270th anniversary in 2025 with the launch of the Historiques 222 in stainless steel.

Designed by Jorg Hysek, the 222 was introduced in 1977 to mark the 222nd anniversary of the brand and following the trend launched by watches like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus.

This new edition of the first 222 model – nicknamed ‘Jumbo’ by collectors - retains the key features of the yellow gold edition presented in 2022, but it now comes in stainless steel with a blue dial.

The 37 mm x 7.95 mm case is characterised by a prominent fluted bezel and is water-resistant up to a pressure of 5 ATM (approximately corresponding to 50 metres / 165 feet). A Maltese cross made of polished Pd150 white gold is soldered onto the flat base of the case at 5 o'clock.

The finishes feature a combination of vertical satin-brushing and polishing on various elements of the watch, including the crown, bracelet, and bezel, enhancing the interplay of light.

The blue dial features straight hour markers and baton-type hands, while the date window has been shifted closer to the centre due to the smaller diameter of the calibre compared to its predecessor, ensuring it does not encroach on the minute track.

For enhanced readability, the hands and hour markers are coated with Super-LumiNova, which emits a lime-green glow in the dark.

The integrated bracelet with hexagonal central links is fitted with a triple-blade (rather than double-blade) clasp. The joints have been revisited to hide the visible pins and improve comfort.

The caseback, bearing a signature representing Vacheron Constantin’s 270th anniversary, has been fitted with a transparent sapphire crystal to reveal the in-house Calibre 2455/2 and its gold oscillating weight, engraved with the original 222 logo and edged with a fluted motif reminiscent of the bezel. 

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) instead of the 2.75 Hz of the original model, this self-winding movement offers a 40-hour power reserve. Engraved on the caseback, the Hallmark of Geneva certifies high quality standards.
