Cyrus unveiled the Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Malachite, a 2-piece limited edition of its technical breakthrough model. Price: €243,000
Swiss manufacture Cyrus has unveiled the Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Malachite, a special edition of its groundbreaking tourbillon model.
Originally launched in 2018 with a solid dial, the Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon evolved into a skeletonized version in 2019, followed by a limited 10-piece sapphire crystal edition. Its standout feature is the tourbillon cage, positioned at the centre of the dial and set at a 90° angle (perpendicular to the dial).
This solution is not only aesthetically captivating, but it also improves the accuracy of the watch.
In fact, extensive research at Cyrus demonstrated that, by positioning the tourbillon cage perpendicular to the dial, the device operates more effectively because it remains vertical for most of the time over the course of 24 hours.
Positioned at this angle, the cage containing the regulating organ — composed by balance wheel, escapement, and pallet fork — offsets the negative effects of gravity more effectively, thus improving the precision of the watch.
This new edition of the model is enriched by the use of malachite for the two retrograde displays for hours and minutes.
Malachite is a natural gemstone with veins of varying hues that create a brilliant green colour.
The watch is housed in a cushion-shaped 4N 18-carat rose gold case with a diameter of 44 mm, strongly characterised by short, slightly curved lugs and two symmetrical crowns.
The one at 3 o’clock adjusts the time and winds the movement, while the other at 9 o’clock can be pushed to rapidly adjust the hour without interfering with the running of the watch, especially useful when travelling.
The dial is protected by a high domed, tailor-made sapphire crystal (for a total thickness of the watch of 19.9 mm) which makes it possible to admire the vertical tourbillon, performing its one-minute rotation, from almost every angle.
Even with such pronounced curvature, the dial indications remain easy to read at a glance. This is due to the exceptional anti-reflection treatment applied to the 1.2 mm-thick glass.
The glass follows the profile of the central arched vertical bridge, a key design element of the watch, refined using the “microbillage” technique and featuring bevelled and polished edges. On both sides of the bridge, the wheels and gears that govern the hours and minutes sectors are on display.
The shape of the bridge is found again in the skeletonized sculpted hands, the one on the left indicating the retrograde jumping hours in Arabic numerals while the one on the right reading off the sweeping retrograde minutes.
The seconds are displayed in the centre on a scale of 5, and can be read from the tourbillon cage thanks to small blocks engraved with Arabic numerals in white, with the exception of the "30" and “60" seconds block which stand out for their bright red.
Between the two arches of the tourbillon bridge, the black-DLC 5 mm sphere at 12 o’clock displays the days of the watch’s power reserve (1-4 days), visually balanced by the Cyrus logo at 6 o’clock.
The tourbillon cage is also visible through the flat sapphire crystal caseback, along with other intriguing details of the 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) hand-wound manufacture calibre CYR625.
The two barrels, which provide a 100-hour power reserve, are distinguished by their black lacquered ratchet-wheels featuring the Maison’s logo.
Fitted with a green alligator leather strap and a personalised folding clasp in 4N 18K gold, the Cyrus Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Malachite (ref. 539.506.GY.A) is a 2-piece limited edition with a price of €243,000. cyrus-watches.ch
