Breguet unveils the Marine Tourbillon Equation Marchante 5887 in platinum with a white gold dial with black finish. Price of Ref.5887PT is €297,000

The technical flagship of the Breguet's Marine collection, the Marine Tourbillon Equation Marchante 5887 is now available in a fourth exclusive interpretation that combines a 950 platinum case with a white gold dial with black finishing and hand-guilloché "wave" motif.

This new version, identified as Reference 5887PT/92/5WV, follows the two initial models launched in 2017—one in platinum with a blue dial and the other in rose gold with a silvered dial—as well as the rose gold version with a slate-gray dial introduced in 2020.

One of the rarest horological complications, the equation of time serves to display the difference between mean solar time, corresponding to civil or standard hours and minutes, and true solar time, meaning the actual solar hours and minutes.

This is achieved by means of two minute hands, a traditional civil minute hand and a second minute hand showing solar time directly.

At the heart of the movement is a cam on a sapphire disc that completes a full rotation per year faithfully duplicating the equation of time cycle. This transparent disc, with months of the year marked along its perimeter, allows one to see the tourbillon located underneath.

The running equation of time display of this model is paired with a perpetual calendar. The day of the week and the month are shown in small windows while the date is indicated with a "retrograde" hand known as “retrograde”. This hand advances along an arc until the end of the month when it will instantaneously snap back to “1” to start the next month.

The movement is derived from the extra-thin self- winding tourbillon caliber 581, operating at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). Containing the timekeeping elements of the watch (balance wheel, spiral, and escapement), the  tourbillon carriage in titanium makes one rotation per minute so eliminating rate errors resulting from gravitational forces.

The 80-hour power reserve, to match with the other indications on the dial, is shown by gauge-type indicator at VIII o’clock.

The connection between the Marine line and the sea is highlighted by the guilloché wave motif at the dial’s center and the remarkable engravings on the case back. These engravings include a detailed depiction of an ancient French Navy flagship, the Royal Louis, hand-carved across the movement bridges.

The entire vessel spans four bridges, with intricate details extending seamlessly from one bridge to the next. The barrel drum features a hand-engraved compass rose.

The peripheral oscillating weight, crafted in platinum, is engine-turned and engraved with the Breguet legend, offering an unobstructed view of the movement’s artwork.

The 43.9 mm case has a thickness of 11.8 mm and is water-resistant to 10 bar (100 meters / 330 feet).

The watch is paired with a black textured rubber strap secured to the wrist by a triple-blade 950 platinum folding clasp.
