TAG Heuer has unveiled the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana, an exclusive 255-piece limited edition chronograph.
This watch celebrates the legendary Carrera Panamericana and the 70th anniversary of Porsche’s victories at the 1954 edition of the race—when the Porsche 550 Spyder triumphed by securing first and second in the under 1500cc sports car class and third and fourth overall. It embodies the shared racing spirit and heritage of TAG Heuer and Porsche, partners since 2021.
The Carrera Panamericana, a legendary cross-country rally since 1950, pushed drivers and machines to their limits over 3,000 km across Mexico. With average speeds over 150 km/h through tough terrains and extreme temperatures, it became a grueling test of endurance and skill.
Despite lasting only five editions due to safety concerns, its legacy endures, inspiring countless stories in motorsport history.
In 1962, Jack Heuer was captivated by stories of danger and excitement from the Carrera Panamericana. His fascination with the race led him to create the Heuer Carrera chronograph, a name that captured the spirit of adventure and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Discover more about this iconic timepiece and its heritage in our feature article "The history of TAG Heuer".
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana takes its design cues from the iconic Porsche 550 Spyder racecar. The skeleton dial features intricate details that echo the wheels of the 550 Spyder. The colour scheme—silver, yellow, and black—reflects the original vehicle’s livery. The yellow lacquered hand and subdial hands highlight the watch’s sporty character.
The shimmering effect on the dial plate and subdials evokes the 550 Spyder’s bodywork, while the grained texture of the skeleton dial, inspired by the racing wheels, represents the asphalt of the road. The snail-brushed movement plate finish is also visible through the dial.
The 42 mm x 15.10 mm stainless steel case features alternating fine-brushed and polished surfaces and is engraved with a “Spyder” logo on its left side in the original font used by Porsche in the 1950s. The curved flange showcases the Porsche logo, and the “Panamericana” marking at 6 o’clock on the dial pays homage to the legendary race.
The timepiece features a domed sapphire Glassbox crystal that pays homage to the typical domed hesalite crystal designs of the 1970s. Reengineered to flow seamlessly over the flange, it follows the edge of the dial, blending into the case. This innovative design was introduced in 2023 for the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox 39 mm models.
Visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback, the TH20-09 in-house tourbillon movement features a vertical clutch, column wheel, and a rotor shaped like a Porsche steering wheel. Beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), it offers a bidirectional automatic rewinding system and a 65-hour power reserve, backed by a five-year extended warranty.
Completed by a black perforated calfskin leather strap with a visible yellow lining on the side and a steel folding clasp with double safety push-buttons, the watch is water-resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet.
Each watch is individually numbered (XXX/255) and features a “LIMITED EDITION” engraving.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana, ref. CBS5012.FC6571, is priced at CHF 35,000. tagheuer.com
