Review: Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic 39

Following Alpina 's launch of the new Alpiner Extreme Automatic 39 collection, we had the opportunity to go hands-on with two of the four available versions of this casual-chic steel timepiece (read our collection overview here).

In particular, for our review we used two models with metal bracelets, with fir green (ref. AL-525GR3AE6B ) and pebble beige (ref. AL-525BG3AE6B) dials.

The new Alpiner Extreme Automatic 39 comes in a compact 39 mm x 11.50 mm stainless steel case whose dynamic lines are highlighted by the alternation of satin-brushed and polished surfaces.

The cushion-shaped case middle is equipped with a round bezel secured by six screws whose heads are shaped like the Alpina triangle.

Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 20 ATM (approximately 200 metres / 660 feet) thanks to the screw-in crown, which is embellished by the Alpina triangle and equipped with a rubber grip for easy handling.

The two guards protecting the crown are visually balanced by a large “ear” on the left caseband.

Finishes are meticulously executed, offering a clear perception of quality.

The new, reduced case size enhances this model's versatility, making it an excellent daily beater that feels at ease in most situations.

The ideal size ensures comfortable wearability on average wrists. For reference, the wrist in our pictures measures 17.8 cm / 7 inches.

The anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects a dial characterised by a slightly raised pattern with a triangle design and an outer flange with a minute track for precise reading of the time.

The applied indexes, along with the large hour and minute hands, are filled with white luminescent material that glows green in darker environments.

The counterweight of the second hand, a red triangle like the brand’s logo, adds sportiness to the ensemble.

Finally, we find a date display at 3 o'clock to complete the dial indications.

The caseback, also fastened with six screws, features a sapphire crystal porthole through which the self-winding AL-525 calibre (base Sellita SW200-1) is displayed.

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), this is the same movement that powers the Alpiner Extreme Automatic 41 mm. The black satin-brushed oscillating weight with Alpina logo provides a power reserve of 38 hours.

The H-shaped brushed stainless steel bracelet features polished sides and is secured to the wrist by a folding buckle with security push buttons. The pebble beige dial version is also available with a beige rubber strap.

Priced at €1,995 with a metal bracelet (or €1,695 with a rubber strap), the Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic 39 is a competitively priced option for those seeking a durable and versatile steel watch with excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail.
