Glashütte Original is enriching its Spezialist collection with the new SeaQ Chronograph “Silver Screen”, a black-and-white interpretation of the sporty flyback chronograph of the German watchmaker.
The stainless steel case of this robust and versatile model measures 43.2 mm x 16.95 mm and is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel with a scratch-resistant black ceramic inlay.
All adjustments can be performed using the screwed-down crown, thus avoiding the need for a separate date corrector on the side of the case which would affect the water resistance of the watch.
Thanks to this solution, the SeaQ Chronograph is water resistant to a pressure of 30 bar, approximately 300 meters / 1,000 feet and complies with all the ISO 6425 and DIN 8306 standards for diver’s watches.
To ensure optimal legibility, the galvanic silver dial utilizes the same optical effect once achieved by cinema screens through a thin layer of silver paint. This surface minimizes light dispersion and provides greater contrast than a white background.
Against the bright background, the black hands and applied indexes stand out clearly for excellent legibility, even in low light conditions thanks to their Super-LumiNova coating.
The 30-minute counter and small second auxiliary dials have been lathe-cut, and given a “vinyl” decorative finish in the manufactory workshops.
Their slender, galvanic black frames also show this refined circular groove pattern. The black-and-white theme continues at 6 o’clock with the Panorama Date presenting white numerals on a black background.
The anti-reflective treatment applied on both sides of the domed sapphire crystal further contributes to perfect legibility of the numerous indications.
The chronograph start and stop functions are controlled by the pusher at 2 o'clock while the flyback mechanism by the pusher at 4 o'clock. Pressing the flyback pusher halts the on-going chronographic time measurement and the chronograph hour, minute and second hands jump back to zero. A new measurement begins immediately as soon as the flyback pusher is released.
The screwed sapphire crystal case back showcases the beautifully decorated Calibre 37-23 and its 21-carat gold oscillating mass decorated with the recurring 'GG' logo.
Integrating a column wheel switch, this automatic chronograph movement beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of over 70 hours. Its silicon balance spring offers enhanced resistance to the influence of magnetic fields.
Aesthetic refinements include perlage, sunburst finishing, stripe finish, bevelling, and polishing.
The watch can be paired with a black rubber strap, a textile strap available in various colours including a striking orange, or a three-link stainless steel bracelet.
The bracelet is equipped with a folding clasp featuring a comfort extension button, adorned with the distinctive double G-logo, which allows the bracelet length to be increased by approximately 5 mm. The lug width is 21 mm.
The new Glashütte Original SeaQ Chronograph “Silver Screen” has a suggested retail price of 16,700 with a steel bracelet (ref. 1-37-23-03-80-70) or €15,500 with any of the available strap options. glashuette-original.com
