In keeping with a tradition started in recent years, German watchmaker Glashütte Original is introducing two special editions of the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date for 2024, featuring colourful “Watermelon” and “Swimming Pool” dials.

The new exclusive versions of this retro-looking flyback chronograph, which pay tribute to a decade of great excitement, are limited to 100 pieces each and can be paired with either a black rubber strap with folding clasp or a steel bracelet with a fine adjustment mechanism. 

The colours of this year are particularly vibrant: a striking coral red for the  “Watermelon” and a fresh turquoise hue for the “Swimming Pool”. 

Both dials have a subtle, velvety finish with black rings to highlight the totalizers.

The indications are efficiently arranged: central stop seconds, a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock, small seconds and power reserve display at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph aperture at 12 o'clock, and the signature Panorama Date at 6 o'clock.

The black-coated applied indexes and hands are treated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility in the dark and are mounted by hand. 

The square case, measuring 40 mm x 40 mm, is crafted from stainless steel and features a combination of polished and satin-brushed surfaces to highlight its dynamic lines. The total thickness, including the flat sapphire crystal, is 14.1 mm.

Contributing to the watch's water resistance up to 10 bar (approximately 100 metres or 330 feet), the screw-down crown is flanked by two protective guard that are seamlessly integrated with the two push buttons. 

The Panorama Date corrector is positioned on the opposite side, at 10 o'clock.

The pusher at 2 o'clock starts and stops the chronograph, while the one at 4 o'clock activates the flyback function. 

When pressed, this pusher halts the ongoing chronograph measurement, and the hour, minute, and second hands reset to zero. Upon releasing the flyback pusher, a new measurement starts immediately.

The automatic Calibre 37-02, with its skeletonised rotor with 21-ct-gold oscillation weight with double G logo, can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.

Beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offering a power reserve of 70 hours, this column-wheel chonograph movement is also beautifully finished, exhibiting the typical features of Saxon watchmaking, including bevelled edges, polished steel parts, blued screws and the Glashütte three-quarter plate with stripe finish.
