Romain Gauthier has released the C by Romain Gauthier Titanium Edition Six, the final edition of its sporty timepiece in titanium. Price CHF48,000
Swiss independent watchmaker Romain Gauthier has released the final edition - limited to 88 pieces - of its C by Romain Gauthier in titanium.
Named C by Romain Gauthier Titanium Edition Six, this model is characterised by a partially open dial that reveals a portion of the entirely hand-decorated titanium movement, whose exceptional finishes can be admired also on the case-back.
The 41 mm x 9.55 mm case is crafted from Grade 5 titanium and water resistant up to a pressure of 50 metres / 166 feet.
The bezel is first machined into a round shape featuring a circular bevel before six straight sides are cut into it to create facets. While these polished facets reflect light and bring the bezel to life, the rest of the bezel absorbs light thanks to its satin finish.
The crown for winding and time-setting is positioned at 2 o’clock and enhanced by an orange rubber ring, which adds a nice touch of colour.
Protected by a sapphire crystal with interior anti-reflection coating, the sapphire dial is partially open to reveal the seconds wheel and the escapement.
The seconds wheel features the typical Romain Gauthier shape and openings, with the decorative circling and polished angles attesting the high standard of finishing.
The partial opening of the dial also reveals the escapement assembly with the escapement wheel, balance and pallet fork.
On the lower part of the dial, a decorative bridge is hand-engraved to reproduce the boucharder texture found inside the bridges on the movement.
The dial features off-center hour-minute hands and slightly tapered hour markers of varying lengths.
The tapering, three-dimensional hands and indices are made from 18k white gold and filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility, as are the numerals and applied hour markers, each of which has been produced from a single piece of white gold.
The 5-second intervals of the small seconds at 7 o'clock are also marked by tapering orange lines of differing lengths.
The same faceted design of the bezel is replicated around the sapphire crystal on the back of the watch.
The manual-winding, in-house movement features several finger bridges, inspired by the Vallée de Joux but reimagined with a modern, stepped shape for added volume and depth.
Made from lightweight Grade 5 titanium, like the case components, the bridges have contrasting tones and textures from various finishes.
Each bridge has double-beveled edges and flat surfaces framed by a raised, straight-grained border. Inside these borders, a unique hand-engraving technique creates a dimpled texture. The mainplate below is hand-frosted.
The intricate decoration extends to Romain's signature gears and ratchet wheel with circular, beveled spokes, all circular-grained. The click, snail cam, and S-slot screws are highly polished. Lastly, the mainspring barrel lid features a snailing decoration.
Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and offering 60 hours of autonomy, this 158-part movement features a stop-seconds – or hacking seconds – mechanism, allowing the wearer to set the time exactly according to a reference time.
Paired with a grey rubber strap and a satin-finished and polished Grade 5 titanium pin buckle, the new C by Romain Gauthier Titanium Edition Six has a retail price of CHF 48,000 before sales taxes. romaingauthier.com
