Following Bulgari's announcement of the new 2024 Aluminium models last May, we had the opportunity to wear and test the GMT model, the Bulgari Aluminium GMT ref. 103963. We are now delighted to share our pictures and impressions with our readers.
Dressed in black and white with red accents, this sporty watch integrates a useful and easy-to-use GMT function.
The Aluminium GMT comes in a 40 mm x 9.7 mm case crafted from aluminium, enhanced by a DLC treatment for improved scratch resistance, and it is characterised by a black rubber bezel embossed with the 14-letter signature, Bvlgari Bvlgari.
The watch is water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 ATM (approximately corresponding to a depth of 100 metres / 330 feet).
Bulgari introduced the Aluminium line in 1998, innovatively combining aluminium and rubber to create a sporty yet chic style which has become immediately associated to the Roman luxury brand.
Resembling silver in its colour and ability to reflect light, aluminium offers excellent corrosion resistance and it is very light thanks to its low density, thus improving the wearing comfort of the watch.
Protected by a flat sapphire crystal, the white dial is circled by a black and red 24-hour flange, used to tell the time in a separate timezone in combination with the red-tipped GMT hand. The black zone represents nighttime (18:00-6:00), while the red zone indicates daytime (6:00-18:00).
The black hands and indices are highlighted with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility in low light conditions.
The central seconds hand features a silvered finish with a red tip and a matching red counter-weight, enhancing the overall aesthetic.
The date window is placed at 3 o’clock. The date is linked to the local time, and will be adjusted automatically when the hour hand passes midnight.
Behind a DLC-coated titanium caseback, the self-winding B192 calibre (ETA 2893-2 base) reliably operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 42 hours.
DLC stands for Diamond-Like Carbon, a type of coating known for its exceptional hardness, durability, and resistance to scratches. This treatment gives a sleek, black finish that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also improves wear resistance.
All functions can be adjusted using the non-screw-down black crown, which has three positions:
-Position 0 for manual winding in case you were not wearing the watch for a long time. The rotor will continue to wind the watch as you wear it and keep the watch going.
-Position 1 for setting the date and the 24-hour GMT hand. Turn the crown clockwise to advance the 24 hour hand or counterclockwise to advance the date.
-Position 2 for time-setting. The second hand will stop in place when the crown is pulled out to this position. This feature is known as “hacking seconds”, useful for setting the time accurately.
Another distinctive element of the Aluminium GMT 103963 is the articulated strap: perfectly matching the bezel, it is made of black rubber with aluminium links and an aluminium pin buckle.
The watch's size and the flexible strap ensure comfortable wearability on average wrists. For reference, the wrist in our pictures measures 17.8 cm / 7 inches.
The Bulgari Aluminium GMT ref. 103963 combines a striking design with a practical GMT function. Its lightweight aluminium case and rubber elements ensure durability and comfort, making this watch a reliable companion in most situations. Priced at € 4,100 (including VAT) / US$ 3,700 (excluding local sales taxes), it offers excellent value for a luxury timepiece, embodying Bulgari's innovative spirit and commitment to quality. bulgari.com
