As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games begin, Omega, the Official Timekeeper of the event, unveils the Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition, a special watch incorporating gold, silver and bronze in tribute to the three iconic medals rewarding sporting success and symbolising of Olympic glory.

The unique design of this special edition is directly inspired by a classic Omega wristwatch from 1939 that housed the famous 30T manual-winding small seconds calibre, a proper choice considering that it was in the 1930s that Omega began its venture as Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games (read more about this journey here). 

The 39 mm x 11.7 mm case is made from Omega’s proprietary Bronze Gold alloy, the dial from Ag 925 silver, and the slender hands in 18K Sedna Gold with a special PVD Bronze Gold coating. 

Bronze Gold was specifically developed to produce a pleasing aesthetic and hue, while also offering an alloy that could be worn with direct contact on the skin, thanks to its composition. 

This one-of-a-kind alloy is enriched with noble elements such as 37.5% gold, hallmarked as 9K, as well as palladium and silver.

In addition to featuring a soft pink hue, it offers incomparable corrosion resistance without verdigris-oxidation during wear, and will therefore age slowly and retain its natural and beautiful patina over a longer period of time. 

The “Clous de Paris” pattern at the center of the watch’s dial has its roots in French craftsmanship. Other details include a circular brushed pattern on the minute track, a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, and a dark grey Omega logo presented in the brand’s heritage style. The dial is protected by a domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.

The caseback showcases a stamped and frosted medallion with a mirror-polished Paris 2024 logo featuring the iconic Olympic rings. The “BG 859” engraving references Bronze Gold, as well as the shape of the case. This follows the "CK 859" and "OT 859" references used in the historic technical sheets of the classic wristwatch that inspired this model.

 

Behind it, the hand-wound Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8926 operates at a frequency of 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hours). This movement is Master Chronometer certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) and offers resistance to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss thanks to its free sprung-balance with silicon balance spring. The two barrels mounted in series guarantee a power reserve of at least 72 hours.

Water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet, the watch is worn on a brown calfskin leather strap with a lug width of 20 mm. It is fastened to the wrist by a sandblasted Bronze Gold buckle with a polished vintage Omega logo in relief. The same vintage logo is embossed on the crown.
