Kari Voutilainen's journey in horology officially started in 1994, when he crafted his first timepiece: a one-minute tourbillon pocket watch that took 2,000 hours to complete, working tirelessly at night.

His complete independence in the world of watchmaking came a few years later, when he established his own workshop in the village of Môtiers, in the tranquil region of Val-de-Travers.

To celebrate his 30-year journey and two decades of independence, Voutilainen has unveiled the Tourbillon 22 timepieces.

With their refined in-house movement, stylish and distinctive case, and hand-guilloché dial, these wristwatches embody Kari Voutilainen’s philosophy in watchmaking.

In terms of architecture and decorative techniques, these Tourbillon 22 timepieces draw inspiration from Voutilainen’s first pocket watch, becoming a fitting tribute to that beginning.

Presented in a round 40 mm case entirely crafted in-house, the Tourbillon 22 will be produced in a limited run of 60 pieces: 20 in platinum (LE20), 20 in white gold (LE20), and 20 in rose gold (LE20). One piece in steel has also been produced. 

Each edition features customized dials tailored to individual requests, ensuring a unique and personalized timepiece for each owner.

Sapphire glasses with anti-reflection treatment are used on both sides to reveal the dial and movement.

Made of silver, the dial is hand-guilloché with distinctive patterns—a signature of Voutilainen’s savoir-faire. It features a small seconds sub-dial at 5 o'clock and a power reserve sector display between 8 and 9 o'clock. The hands are made from gold, finished and polished by hand.

The in-house movement was designed, built, fabricated, finished, and assembled entirely within the Voutilainen workshops. Beating at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, it offers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.

This movement features a rarely seen balance-spring system with the exterior of the spring using a typical Phillips overcoil and the internal curve using the little-known Grossmann curve.

The main plate and bridges are handcrafted for the highest levels of finishing. The surfaces of pinions and wheels are flat and highly polished within exceptionally uniform tolerances. Screws and all steel parts are polished by hand.

Paired with a hand-sewn crocodile or calf leather strap, the new Voutilainen Tourbillon 20th Anniversary pieces are priced at CHF 275,000 in rose gold, and CHF 278,000 in white gold or platinum. voutilainen.ch
