Our hands-on review of the MeisterSinger Unomat Edition ED-UN902BLUBL with a live pictures and wristhots. Price €2,690
Launched in 2021, the Unomat is the sportiest model in the MeisterSinger collection.
This rugged wristwatch retains the signature single-hand time display characteristic of most MeisterSinger watches, while enhancing its robustness, waterproofness, and magnetic resistance.
The latest interpretation of the Unomat is a limited edition of 50 pieces, featuring a bold black DLC case and a black dial with contrasting indices and numerals.
We had the opportunity to review the Unomat Edition, ref. ED-UN902BLUBL, and we are now delighted to share our pictures with our readers.
The watch comes in a round 43 mm x 13.2 mm stainless steel case enhanced by a jet black DLC (Diamond-Like-Carbon) coating, which makes this watch even more hard-wearing and rugged.
The case back and middle section are matte sandblasted, while the bezel is polished.
The screw-down crown, featuring the embossed brand symbol, is protected by robust guards that add character to this sporty timepiece, which is water-resistant up to 30 bar (approximately 300 meters / 1,000 feet).
Like most MeisterSinger timepieces, the Unomat Edition uses a single hand to indicate the time. This large, needle-sharp hand sweeps over the 12 hours, which are divided by 144 markers, each representing 5 minutes.
The display principle is similar to that of the first mechanical clocks which used just one hand to indicate the time of day (you can read more about single-hand timepieces in watchmaking history by following the link at the end of the article).
This alternative and simplified representation of time suggests a more relaxed way to consider the passing of time. It is not by chance that the logo of the brand is a Fermata, the musical notation for a pause.
Protected by a slightly domed sapphire crystal, the deep matte black dial features hour and 15-minute markers in white, while the 5-minute markers are in grey. A round date aperture at 6 o'clock completes the indications.
The double-digit hour numerals are three-dimensional, cast luminous elements applied to the dial. Their thickness allows them to absorb and emit light from the sides.
The hour markers and the single hand are also treated with luminous material, resulting in intense nighttime visibility.
Unlike the prototype used for our review, the solid caseback of each Unomat Edition timepiece is stamped with individual numbering (XX/50), as shown in the picture below.
The movement is enclosed by layers of soft iron, a metal with a great capacity to absorb magnetic waves, preventing them from reaching the mechanisms. This makes the Unomat resistant to magnetic fields up to 24,000 A/m (Ampere per meter), protecting it from the radiation of cell phones, lab equipment, and other electrical devices.
Robust yet comfortable, the blue rubber strap matches the colour of the hour numerals and is secured to the wrist with a black DLC steel pin buckle.
A special 50-piece edition with orange numerals and rubber strap, along with a winding crown positioned on the left-hand side, has been released for the Dutch market (you can read about it here).
Priced at € 2,690, the new Unomat Edition, ref. ED-UN902BLUBL, is an eye-catching timepiece designed to withstand rugged environments, whether on land or underwater. It offers excellent performances in terms of waterproofness and resistance to magnetic fields, combined with a unique single-handed time display, making it a real conversation starter. meistersinger.com
