This model further develops the inspirational motif of the Multifort TV Big Date line introduced in June 2023. With this successful series, the typical case, reminiscent of the design of the first TV devices, made a comeback after the original model was introduced in 1973, along with the variations that followed in the 1980s and 2000s.
We had the possibility to preview and wear the new Multifort TV Big Date Limited Edition S01E01 that Mido is unveiling today, and we are delighted to share our firsthand pictures and impressions.
The watch comes in a 40 mm x 39.2 mm stainless steel case equipped with a flat, square satin-finished bezel for a total thickness to 11.5 mm. The dynamic lines are highlighted by alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces.
Equipped with a guard-protected screwed-down crown, the watch ensures water-resistance up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet).
Once unscrewed, the crown has three positions: Position 1 for manual winding, Position 2 for date correction, and Position 3 for time-setting with stop seconds.
Setting the Multifort TV Big Date Limited Edition S01E01 apart from the other references in this series is the spectacular dial, which brings to mind a screen, with a subtle and hypnotic play of three-dimensional, coloured geometric shapes, a skilful reworking of the lines that appeared on the TV tuning screens of the era.
The different sizes of four-faceted pyramids, with their colours and geometric layouts, create a visual impression of movement on this screen-style dial.
Around it, we find trapezoidal indexes at the quarter-hours and dot indexes at the five minute points, highlighted in black and filled with white Super-LumiNova.
This luminescent treatment, also applied to the faceted hour and minute hands, ensures excellent readability in the dark.
Mido's famous Big Date stands out prominently at 12 o'clock. The sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both faces ensures a perfect, glare-free view of this unique dial.
Perfectly matching the finishes of the case, the stainless steel bracelet is satin-brushed with polished centre links and secured to the wrist by a double folding clasp with double safety push-buttons.
The two additional yellow and turquoise-blue rubber straps feature a stainless steel pin buckle and replicate the design of the central links that define the bracelet.
Both the metal bracelet and the straps feature convenient bars with a spur system, allowing for effortless and tool-free changes. The lug width is 22 mm.
The proportions feel just right for a sporty timepiece, and we enjoyed its comfortable fit on the wrist.
The self-winding Calibre 80 (ETA C07.651 base) is showcased through the transparent case back, revealing its inner workings. It is equipped with a Nivachron balance spring, renowned for its resilience against shocks and magnetic fields. The oscillating weight of the movement is adorned with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo.
Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, this movement boasts a remarkable power reserve of up to 80 hours.
