Panerai unveiled the new Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech, PAM01466 and PAM01543. Price €16,900
Panerai became the Official Sponsor of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team in 2019, further reinforcing its ties with the nautical world year after year.
Over the course of this six-year partnership, Panerai has developed collections of technical watches, one for each year leading up to the ultimate challenge. These collections draw inspiration from the technologies and materials utilized in the America’s Cup, as well as from the insights and requirements of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team.
In the run-up to the 37th America’s Cup set in Barcelona (Aug 22, 2024 - Oct 20, 2024), Panerai unveiled the new Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech PAM01466 and PAM01543.
These two new references feature the pioneering Ti-Ceramitech material, developed over seven years by the Laboratorio di Idee at the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. This material exemplify the brand's commitment to cutting-edge technologies.
The 44 mm Ti-Ceramitech case of these models, is inspired by a material originally used in high-performance competitive environments and has been adapted and integrated into the world of watchmaking.
Through seven years of research and development, Panerai has filed a patent application for a titanium ceramization process through Electrolytic Plasma Oxidation capable of achieving a very distinctive hue of blue.
This process transforms the titanium alloy surface into a dense ceramic layer, and the specific choice of elements used, combined with the electrolyte composition, allowed for the creation of the watch’s peculiar and striking colour.
The resultant case is 44% lighter than steel yet has fracture toughness ten times higher than traditional ceramic, making it ideal for withstanding high pressure and very high thermal stress.
To obtain the bezel, machined titanium is ceramized and then reworked to reveal the metal beneath at strategic points, creating an eye-catching contrast of materials, punctuating the crown and its protecting lever, the edge, and indexes of the bezel.
The screwed case-back and the trapezoidal pin buckle of the bi-material rubber and textile strap are also made from micro-sandblasted titanium. The colour of the strap has been bespoke developed to perfectly match the distinctive blue shade resulting from the ceramization process.
The two new references differ for their dials: PAM01466’s comes with a blue sun-brushed dial, while PAM01543 is particularly bright with a white-matt grained dial, both accented with a decal of Luna Rossa and small red second hands.
The date window stands at 3 o’clock, visually balanced by the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. The Super-LumiNova-filled hands and hour markers ensure legibility in low light conditions.
The new Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech models are powered by the self-winding P.900 calibre, offering a 3-day power reserve delivered by a bidirectional oscillating weight and stored in a single barrel.
Its balance wheel, oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, is securely fixed in position by a balance cock. The calibre is equipped with a stop-second function that enables precise time setting.
Water resistant up to 50 bar (~500 meters / 1,650 feet), these watches undergo rigorous testing, exposing them to pressures up to 25% greater than the guaranteed water resistance value. This ensures that they surpass Panerai's exacting standards.
The new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech, PAM01466 and PAM01543, will be available from July 2024 in the lead-up to the 2024 America’s Cup races. PAM01466 will be available across all networks, while PAM01543 will be exclusive to boutiques. Price: Euro 16,900 / US$ 16,600. panerai.com
