German watchmaker Glashütte Original has decided to pay tribute to the city of Dresden and its historical importance with a hand-engraved special edition of the PanoMaticInverse model.

Limited to just 25 pieces, the PanoMaticInverse Dresden Special Edition is enriched with engraved miniatures representing characteristic views of the beautiful town, one of the most visited in Germany.

During the Baroque period, the capital of Saxony flourished into a captivating metropolis, fostering the growth of art, culture, science, and technology. Many iconic landmarks, whose silhouettes define Dresden's skyline today, originated during this era, earning the city its moniker, "Florence on the Elbe." Among these, the Frauenkirche's distinctive dome stands prominently in the city centre, alongside the monumental Academy of Fine Arts, erected in the late 19th century along the banks of the Elbe River.

Nestled amidst the forests and meadows of the Eastern Ore Mountains, approximately 35 minutes by car from Dresden, Glashütte maintains a close relationship with the city. The town's historical ties to Dresden trace back to the decision made there to establish watchmaking in the Ore Mountains, giving rise to an independent Saxon watch industry. Even today, the proximity to the state capital continues to influence the operations of the Glashütte Original manufactory.

Housed in a 42 mm x 12.3 mm platinum case water-resistant to 5 bar, the PanoMaticInverse, with its inverse arrangement of several movement components, served as a canvas for the artists of the Manufactory. All can be easily admired through the sapphire crystal on both sides of the watch.

Each of these special edition watches is engraved by hand, rendering it unique. The engraver’s delicate touch brings the silhouettes of familiar Dresden buildings and panoramas into view. The roof of the Academy of Fine Arts and its winged statue of Fama are memorialized on the front, next to the unmistakable “lantern” atop the Frauenkirche dome.

The balance bridge is adorned with baroque ornament. In the sky over the rooftops of the city, you can notice not just birds and clouds but also a small hot air balloon.

Its form is taken up on the back of the watch by a skeletonised rotor that turns above a view of the Elbe promenade. 

Sapphire crystal rings make the off-centre display appear to float above the meticulously decorated three-quarter plate.

The automatic Calibre 91-03 displays  hours, minutes and small seconds, flanked by the classic Panorama Date. The balance oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and is regulated using a duplex swan-neck fine adjustment.
