To celebrate its 140th anniversary, Breitling presented the self-winding Navitimer B12 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Limited Edition. Price €21,500

Alongside the new Navitimer Automatic 41 and Navitimer GMT 41 models, Breitling is also introducing the Navitimer B12 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Limited Edition. This self-winding model pays homage to the iconic Cosmonaute model, a 24-hour variant of the Navitimer that made history as the first Swiss wristwatch in space.

In 1962, astronaut Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth three times while wearing the Navitimer Cosmonaute during his Mercury-Atlas 7 mission aboard the Aurora 7 space capsule.

The watch was Carpenter’s personal request, a variation on the renowned aviator’s watch but with a 24-hour dial to distinguish day from night in the darkness of space.

Released to commemorate Breitling’s 140th anniversary, this 250-piece limited edition is powered by the self-winding Breitling manufacture caliber B12, differently from the hand-wound Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute introduced in 2022.

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), this chronograph movement with 24-hour display offers 70 hours of power reserve and is chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute).

The watch is housed in a 41 mm x 13.6 mm case crafted from 18k red gold and is water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet. 

The signature bidirectional notched bezel with circular slide rule frames a deep green dial with contrasting black counters and golden numerals. The cambered sapphire crystal is glareproofed on both sides.

The transparent sapphire crystal of the caseback showcases the contrasting oscillating weight capping the B12 movement. A caseback engraving states the “One of 250” limitation and reveals the

watch’s story: “First Swiss Wristwatch in Space/Navitimer Cosmonaute May 24,1962.”

The watch is paired with a black alligator leather strap fastened by a red gold folding clasp. The lug width measures 22 mm.
