Garrick Introduces the S2 Deadbeat Seconds

British watchmaker Garrick recently introduced the S2 Deadbeat Seconds, the latest model of the brand endowed with a deadbeat seconds display — a complication that makes the second hand advance in full one-second steps, contrasting with the more commonly seen smooth, sweeping action of mechanical seconds.

True to Garrick's tradition, each watch is handmade to order, with a current lead time of approximately 52 weeks.

Encased in a 42 mm x 10 mm 904L stainless steel case, crafted in the Norwich workshop, the design boasts polished surfaces and a fluted onion crown, with a lug width of 22 mm. 

Two dial versions are available: the original MK1 with thermally blued Roman numerals and a 'chemin de fer' to facilitate the read-off of minutes and seconds, or the MK2 which features a thin circular grained chapter ring with infilled markers. 

Both versions offer frosted or engine-turned finishes and various colours.

The engine-turned, or 'guilloché', dial, is produced entirely in-house on one of Garrick’s historic rose and straight-line engines. Clients can personalize their watches with polished, brushed, or thermally blued steel lancine or anchor hands, also crafted in-house. 

At 6 o'clock, the dial features a large aperture revealing the balance wheel with a rim made of the patented anti-magnetic alloy, Sircumet.

Visible through the exhibition caseback, the hand-wound Calibre UT-GO6 operates at a frequency of 2.5 Hz (18,000 vibrations per hour) with a 45-hour power reserve. The rate of the movement is altered by adjusting the timing screws on the balance. These screws are set inboard, mitigating air turbulence and, in so doing, augmenting precision.

The mainplate can be specified in frosted gold plate or rhodium plate with perlage decoration.

Water resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet, the new Garrick S2 Deadbeat Seconds is priced at £19,000 excluding VAT. Garrick also provides an option for an 18-carat gold case for clients looking for an even more luxurious touch. garrick.co.uk
