IWC is launching two performance chronographs dedicated to its motorsport partners Mercedes-AMG and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
Crafted from titanium or Ceratanium, the new Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 models are characterised by their ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale, enabling the wearer to measure the average speed based on the distance travelled.
The Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 AMG features a case, crown, and pushers crafted from titanium, a lightweight material that IWC pioneered in the watch industry since the 1980s.
The Grade 5 titanium alloy used for the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 case is around 45% lighter than steel and remarkably rigid. The case features a brushed finish with polished details on the horns.
One version is fitted with a robust, waterproof black rubber strap (Ref. IW388305), while the other version (Ref. IW388304) features a titanium bracelet with H-links and an integrated folding clasp.
The second model, the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team is crafted from Ceratanium.
Developed by IWC, this high-tech material combines the characteristics of ceramics and titanium offering the hardness and scratch-resistance of the first and the lightness and structural integrity of the second.
All components are finished by hand and fired in a kiln at high temperatures. During this firing process, a phase transformation occurs, and the material’s surface obtains properties similar to ceramic and its matte black finish.
One version is fitted with a black rubber strap with a Ceratanium pin buckle (Ref. IW388306). The other version features a Ceratanium bracelet with an integrated folding clasp (Ref. IW388307).
Measuring 41.1 mm x 14.8 mm, both models are equipped with a specially designed sapphire glass to withstand sudden pressure drops and are water resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (approximately 100 metres / 330 feet)
Matching the polished black ceramic bezels, all models feature black dials with a polished black lacquer finish and black hands. The recessed totalisers - arranged according to a 6-9-12 layout - and the applied indices and numerals in blackened nickel provide additional depth.
Hands, indices and numerals are filled with Super-LumiNova for improved readability in any light condition.
All versions of the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 are powered by the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre movement. Comprising 242 parts, this column-wheel chronograph movement features a bi-directional pawl winding system which builds up a power reserve of 46 hours in the mainspring.
Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the movement is showcased through the transparent sapphire crystal case backs.
All four timepieces are eligible for registration under the My IWC care program and can benefit from a 6-year extension to the standard 2-year International Limited Warranty.
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 AMG models have prices of Euro 10,900 / US$ 9,800 with rubber strap (Ref. IW388305) or Euro 13,100 / US$ 11,700 with titanium bracelet (Ref. IW388306) or Euro 22,400 / US$ 19,900 with Ceratanium bracelet (Ref. IW388307). Euro prices include VAT while US$ prices are before local sales tax. iwc.com
