TAG Heuer celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Carrera with the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox ref. CBS2240 in 18k yellow gold. Price CHF 21,000
TAG Heuer marks the conclusion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Carrera, whose amazing history started in 1963 (for more details, you can explore it here), with the release of the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox ref. CBS2240.FC8319 in 18k yellow gold.
In the early 1970s, Jack Heuer, the fourth-generation company leader, started gifting gold watches to race car drivers. This smart move created a strong link between TAG Heuer and motorsports. These watches became more than just rewards; they became loyal partners in the drivers' pursuit of winning. Among the others, drivers like Ronnie Peterson and Niki Lauda proudly wore these timepieces.

The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox 39 mm pays tribute to this vintage era with its retro charm that reflects the exceptional heritage of the Swiss brand.
Its 39 mm x 13.9 mm case, with muscular lugs that bend downward to follow the profile of the wrist, is crafted from 18K 3N yellow gold, an alloy that is 75% pure gold, 12.5% silver and 12.5% copper. Fine brushed and polished surfaces alternate to highlight the dynamic design.
The case is equipped with pump pushers to activate the chronograph functions: start/stop at 2 o'clock, reset at 4 o'clock. The crown is not screwed-down, but water resistance is nonetheless guaranteed up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet).
The profile is strongly characterised by a Glassbox sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment. Shaped like the domed hesalite crystals found on Carrera models from the 1970s, this special crystal has been redesigned to have a curve that flows seamlessly over the tachymeter scale that runs around the dial edge and into the case.
The curved flange not only amplifies visibility but also simplifies the reading of the 60-second/minute scale that encircles the edge of the dial.
The 18K 3N yellow gold-plated dial features contrasting black “azuré” subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock, reminiscent of the iconic reverse panda configuration.
To ensure optimal legibility, the black lacquered central hand creates a striking contrast against the luxurious gold dial, and its vertical brushed finish, reminiscent of the racetrack markings.
The hours/minutes hands and the indexes are treated with Super-LumiNova that glows in green in the dark.
Visible through the screw-down sapphire caseback, TAG Heuer’s in-house chronograph movement Heuer 02, designated as TH20-00, operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour).
This new-generation movement features an oscillating weight offering bi-directional winding, where previous versions only charged the movement’s mainspring if the rotor moved in an anti-clockwise direction. This way, it delivers faster and more reliable winding, ensuring the watch is running closer to its maximum 80-hour power reserve and improving precision for more of the time it is in use. Its design has also changed, now reprising the shape of the shield in the TAG Heuer logo.
Paired with a black perforated calfskin leather strap, fastened to the wrist with a 18K 3N yellow gold pin buckle, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox in yellow gold ref. CBS2240.FC8319 has a retail price of CHF 21,000. tag-heuer.com
