Our hands-on review of the Cyrus Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon introducing a new luminescent carbon bezel and an integrated bracelet. Price €50,300
The new Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon by Cyrus is not just a new variant of this exceptional double chronograph; it marks two milestones for the brand. It introduces a pioneering carbon bezel that illuminates in low-light conditions and debuts Cyrus's first-ever integrated bracelet.
Following the inaugural Klepcys DICE introduced at the end of 2021 and the DICE Lime and DICE Racing of 2022, the new Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon offers an even more cutting-edge look.
Integrating two separate chronograph movements in a single case, this timepiece is capable of measuring two time intervals independently or in synchrony. In fact, the DICE acronym stands for Double Independent Chronograph Evolution.
The watch is produced in two limited editions of 50 pieces each: one with the new integrated bracelet (ref. 539.508.TCM.B) and the other with a green Cordura fabric strap (ref. 539.508.TC.B). For our review, we tested the bracelet version.
As written above, this bracelet is a first for Cyrus and will now be used also for other models of the brand (see, for example, the Klepcys GMT).
Like the case, this perfectly integrated bracelet is made of Grade 5 titanium, with satin-brushed surfaces alternated to polished hexagonal central links. It is secured to the wrist by a triple folding clasp customised with the Maison's logo.
Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the cushion-shaped case is strongly characterised by two symmetrical crowns at 3 and 9 o'clock, each equipped with a pusher that sets the three chronograph functions (start/stop/reset). The crown at 3 o’clock also winds the movement and adjusts the time.
Decorated with the brand's helix logo, they are distinguished by either a green or yellow anodised aluminium ring to instantly recognize which of the two chronograph mechanisms they activate. Unlike a rattrapante chronograph that measures events with simultaneous starts but different end times, the Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon can measure elapsed times with different start times.
Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 ATM (approximately 100 metres / 330 feet), the case of the Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon has a total height of 16.5 mm, including bezel and anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
Thanks to the choice of titanium, the watch is extremely light on the wrist. Comfort is enhanced also by short and slightly curved lugs (the wrist in our pictures measures 18 cmm / 7 inches).
The ultra-light bezel is obtained by layering carbon fiber and then machining it, a process that makes the surface of each bezel always look different. The inclusion of luminescent material, which glows in green in the dark, adds a truly unique characteristic to this model.
The matt black appearance is not the only reason for using carbon fiber. Indeed, this high-tech material offers exceptional properties, including extreme lightness, thermal insulation and flame resistance.
The open-worked dial's 3D architecture showcases various movement details, including wheels, levers, and two column wheels – one in green and the other in yellow lacquer, positioned at 12 and 6 o'clock, respectively.
All chronograph indications follow the green and yellow colour scheme. This is used for the two central seconds hands, each measuring a different length and, at 3 o'clock, the 30-minute chronograph counter equipped with two vertically aligned hands. Thanks to the bold colours, reading the two elapsed times is instantaneous and very intuitive.
The two central hands differ in length as they track seconds on a slightly convex flange adorned with two parallel scales, graduated every 5 seconds, and highlighted in green and yellow. The longer green central seconds hand measures time on the outermost scale and resets at 12 o'clock, while the shorter yellow hand tracks the innermost yellow scale and resets at 6 o'clock.
A special system of insulation ensures precision measurement for the duration of the event. This way, the shocks generated by the activation of chronograph levers have no repercussions on the display of the functions. The two chronographs function independently without exerting any influence on one another.
A significant challenge was represented by the need to fit a dual chronograph complication into a wristwatch case. This required a unique approach to arrange the motion work mechanism responsible for the hour and minute hands. Typically, this mechanism involves multiple gears on different rotational axes. However, in the case of the Klepcys DICE, traditional methods couldn't be applied due to space limitations. To maximize available space, Cyrus innovatively designed a compact concentric motion work mechanism, aligned with the hands' axes, effectively overcoming these space constraints.
Positioned at 9 o'clock are the small seconds, featuring a distinctive hand design reminiscent of the Maison's logo – a three-armed helix with a luminescent tip.
Surrounding the outer sapphire crystal ring are anti-reflective Arabic numerals in relief, accentuated with white Super-LumiNova, emitting a blue glow.
Through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback, sealed with customised screws bearing the Maison's three-armed helix logo, it is possible to appreciate other details of the manufacture self-winding CYR718 calibre.
This mechanism requires two mainplates on which the additional 218-part module for the two independent chronographs is mounted. Featuring 443 components in total, the mechanism beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with an autonomy of 55 hours.
Engraved with the motto "The Conquest of Innovation", the open-worked monobloc rotor is adorned with an 18k 4N gold medallion with the Cyrus helix.
Enhanced by a galvanic treatment, the anthracite grey NAC bridges feature hand-beveled profiles and are decorated with an embossed sunray pattern, along with satin and microbeaded finishing.
Offering a remarkable visual impact and combining advanced materials with the technical prowess of a double chronograph, the new Cyrus Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon with its integrated titanium bracelet is priced at Euro 50,300. The version with green Cordura strap retails at Euro 48,700. cyrus-watches.ch
