Longines - Spirit Flyback Titanium

Launched with great success last March (you can read our introductory article here), the Longines Spirit Flyback is now available in a new titanium version that blends the bold design and cutting-edge precision of the model with exceptional lightness.

A flyback chronograph enables the measuring of consecutive intervals of time smoothly and quickly. Unlike a traditional chronograph, whose seconds hand has to be stopped, reset and restarted, the flyback function enables the hand to return instantly to zero and start measuring time again with a single press of the push-button. 

Longines produced the first model equipped with a flyback function in 1925, filing a patent that was registered on 16 June 1936. In aviation, this complication proved to be particularly useful to enable the successive timing of different stages of a flight, thus facilitating navigation. 

Crafted from Grade 5 titanium, an alloy that is both lighter and tougher than steel, the satin-polished case of the new Spirit Flyback Titanium is equipped with a bidirectional rotating bezel with black ceramic insert and a screw-in that contributes to make the watch waterproof up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet).

Protected by a domed sapphire glass with multi-layer anti-reflective coating on both sides, the anthracite dial boasts a bi-compax layout with a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock. 

The gilt hands and applied numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova for ensuring optimum legibility in all circumstances, even in low-light environments.

The red colour used for the pointer of the central chronograph seconds hand and the FLYBACK text adds sportiness to the ensemble.

Revealed through the transparent case back, the self-winding column-wheel movement L791.4 operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 68 hours. The personalised oscillating weight is engraved with the globe representing the Longines Spirit collection and the name Longines Flyback. 

The movement is certified as a chronometer by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) and resistant to magnetism thanks to its silicon balance spring.

The new Longines Spirit Flyback in titanium can be paired with a Grade 5 titanium bracelet with double-safety folding clasp and quick interchangeability system (ref. L3.821.1.53.6) or a black and grey NATO with titanium tongue buckle (ref. L3.821.1.53.2). Prices are Euro 5,850 / US$ 5,200 and Euro 5,500 / US$ 4,850, respectively. longines.com
