Breguet - Marine Tourbillon 5577

Breguet unveiled the new Marine Tourbillon 5577 featuring an ultra-thin movement. Available in in rose gold (577BR) or platinum (5577PT). Price.

Abraham-Louis Breguet invented the tourbillon to compensate the effects of gravitational forces on the accuracy of pocket watches. On 26 June 1801, he was granted a 10-year patent by the French Interior Minister for his “watch compensating for all of the inequalities that may be found in the balance wheel and mainspring”. 

By installing the regulating organ (the sprung balance) and the escapement inside a mobile carriage performing a complete rotation about its own axis once per minute, Breguet not only improved the accuracy of pocket-chronometers but also created one of the most appreciated and fascinating horological devices (you can read the story of the tourbillon in our feature article "The Tourbillon, history of a watchmaking feat").

Over 220 years have passed, and this remarkable watchmaking mechanism remains one of the most fascinating horological creations to which Breguet pays tribute once again by including it in its Marine collection with the new Marine Tourbillon 5577.

Available in rose gold or platinum, the 42.5 mm x 9.3 mm case houses the self-winding Calibre 581, an ultra-thin movement measuring just 3 mm thick, and comprising 330 components. 

This thinness is made possible by the use of a peripheral rotor. The balance beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a remarkable power reserve of 80 hours. 

This innovative movement is fitted with a carriage and balance-spring in silicon, a material with multiple properties including resistance to both corrosion and wear, along with insensitivity to the influence of magnetic fields.

The finishing of the movement of the new Marine Tourbillon 5577 is revealed through the sapphire case-back. The barrel drum bears a compass rose. Various decorations typical of the Marine line are also present, including a straight ribbed motif.

Enhanced by a sunburst finish, the dial of the new 5577 references is slate-grey coloured for the rose gold version and navy blue for the platinum model. Positioned at 5 o'clock, the eye-catching tourbillon performs a complete rotation in 60 seconds. To highlight this mechanism, the chapter ring has been slightly off-centred.

The hour-markers and the open-tipped gold Breguet hands are filled with luminescent material for improved readability in low-light conditions.

The Tourbillon Marine is available with a brown rubber or alligator leather strap/rose gold bracelet for the rose gold model and with a midnight blue rubber or alligator leather strap/platinum bracelet for the platinum model.
