H. Moser and MB&F created the Streamliner Pandamonium, a unique piece created in support of the 10th edition of the Only Watch charity auction.
Maximilian Büsser and Edouard Meylan have joined forces for the second time to contribute to the Only Watch charity auction, set to occur on November 5th in Geneva. The event aims to raise funds for the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy. Their collaborative effort has resulted in an exclusive creation, centred around a musical theme. The unique piece, known as the H. Moser X MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium, showcases a minute repeater complication animated by a miniature DJing panda. This whimsical creature has become a hallmark of MB&F's Only Watch contributions.
The Streamliner's case encompasses a three-dimensional movement specially and solely developed for the Only Watch event. It will remain exclusive to this occasion and won't be featured in any other models. The minute repeater mechanism is visible on the fumé dial, presented in a new colour scheme. Stripped of logos and indices, this dial exemplifies H. Moser & Cie.'s minimalist philosophy while highlighting MB&F's distinctive large suspended balance wheel.
Fashioned from white gold and hand-sculpted and adorned, the miniature DJ panda resides alongside the hammers. Its turntables are positioned on the hammers' axis and are actuated by the mechanism's rotation. Measuring a mere 5.35 mm in height, creating this intricate miniature demanded countless hours of precision craftsmanship, from design and development to modelling, manufacturing, engraving, jewelry work, and painting.
The meticulous workmanship extended to the minute details, such as the 0.99 mm muzzle and the paw-print-adorned turntables, with an outer diameter of 1.75 mm and a thickness of only 0.35 mm.
Derived from the Legacy Machine series, a prominent suspended balance wheel takes the spotlight. It features a double hairspring produced by Precision Engineering AG, H. Moser & Cie.'s sister company. The pair of precisely matched hairsprings corrects the shifting point of gravity during expansion, thereby greatly enhancing accuracy and isochronism in pursuit of perfection.
Additionally, the paired hairsprings mitigate the friction effects usually associated with a single hairspring, further improving isochronism. The captivating movements of this balance wheel presented an additional challenge due to the bending of the gongs at two points, allowing them to pass over the balance wheel bridge. The uniquely designed gongs, with a flat coil and an upper coil, offer three-dimensional characteristics.
Encased in a steel frame integrated with a bracelet, the cushion-shaped case is topped with a domed sapphire crystal and guarantees water resistance up to 5 ATM. The sliding bolt, responsible for triggering the minute repeater mechanism and mounted on a Teflon runner to ensure seamless movement, is ingeniously integrated into the main plate to conserve space.
The case middle has been meticulously hollowed out to accommodate the movement while offering ample room for the creation of a soundbox, amplifying the resonance of the two gongs struck by raised hammers to indicate hours, quarter-hours, and minutes.
Distinguished by its three-dimensional design, the manually wound HMC 906 calibre has been partially skeletonized to allow for the admiration of key components. Due to the unconventional case assembly, the calibre was designed to be integrated from the top. A detachable bezel was created to facilitate access and increase the case's size, thereby enhancing its sonic qualities.
Operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, the calibre HMC 906 ensures a minimum power reserve of 54 hours. It boasts contemporary finishes, including anthracite grey rhodium-plating on the bridges and main plate, along with the iconic horizontal double Moser stripes.
The Only Watch estimate for this model is CHF 300,000 - 400,000. h-moser.com and mbandf.com
