The new Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Bamford Edition ‘Desert Racer’ is the result of the collaboration between Chopard and the Bamford Watch Department, a renowned UK personalisation house.

Produced in a limited edition of just 50 pieces, this sporty model reflects the passion of both brands for motorsports. The watch recently accompanied George Bamford, the founder of Bamford Watch Department, in the desert of northern Mexico, on the occasion of the last edition of the National Off Road Racing Association. The event, which saw Bamford racing aboard a Meyers Manx buggy, offered the opportunity to fully test the robustness and precision of the ‘Desert Racer’ in a challenging environment.

The 43 mm x 11.43 mm round case is made from bead-blasted titanium, and equipped with a fixed titanium bezel with black aluminium inlay and orange numerals. The screw-lock crown in DLC-treated blackened Lucent Steel with a steering wheel motif contributes to guarantee water resistance up to 10 bar (approximately 100 metres / 330 feet).

Designed for a perfect wrist fit, the watch boasts streamlined lugs and an integrated rubber strap enhanced with a refined woven effect. Securing the watch is a folding clasp made of DLC bead-blasted steel.

A glare-proofed sapphire crystal protects a frosted black dial with cool grey transfers and orange hour-markers. The oversized 6 and 12 o’clock Arabic numerals stand out against the dial, just like the power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock, a display that was inspired by the fuel gauges of sport cars. 

The sanded metallised black hour-markers and the faceted hours/minutes hands are enhanced with black Super-LumiNova for improved legibility in poor light conditions. The black central sweep-seconds hand features a cross-hatched orange tip.

 

The screw-down case-back, with eight black PVD-treated screws, features a transparent tinted crystal, surrounded by an orange seal, to offer a view of the Chopard 01.08-C movement and its openworked oscillating weight.

Developed, produced and assembled in Chopard's watchmaking workshops and chronometer-certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), this self-winding movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and has a power reserve of 60 hours.
