Strehler - Sirna

Created by Andreas Strehler, the new Strehler brand is launching its first watch, the Sirna, a 3-hand model entirely crafted in house. Price CHF20,000

Andreas Strehler is one of the most respected independent watchmakers in the industry. For instance, he executed the most accurate moon phase mechanism for his eponymous brand known as the Sauterelle à Lune Exacte (with a one-day deviation every 2 million years). He was also the first to place a constant-force mechanism and a tourbillon on the same axis with his Tourbillon Trans-Axial in 2018. 

The Swiss watchmaker is now launching a new brand, simply called “Strehler”, with the goal  to share his passion for high-end watchmaking with a broader audience by offering more widely available creations. 

The first chapter of the new brand is called Sirna, a nod to the town where his workshop is based: Sirnach, a small town of the canton of Thurgau in between lake Constance and the Alps, in the German-speaking part of Switzerland.

With the Sirna, Strehler proposes an elegant daily wearer, in the form of a three-hand watch characterised by a classic yet modern style.

The entire watch, from the movement to the case, dial and hands, is produced by a dedicated team in the Sirnach manufactory.

The 40 mm case in polished steel features elongated lugs that gently bend downward for enhanced ergonomics. With its concave profile, the Sirna is particularly thin at just 8.5 mm. Water-resistance is ensured up to 3 ATM (30 metres / 100 feet).

Protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, the dial sports a unique three-dimensional pattern that has been created with renowned watch designer Eric Giroud. 

Made in hard titanium, this dial can only be machined and laser engraved one by one and then polished by hand. Achieved by anodization, the intense blue colour of the titanium will not fade overtime and creates a nice contrast with the two applied stainless steel chapter rings, the smaller of them being used for the small seconds counter at 6 o'clock. 

The making of a single dial requires hours of meticulous work. Also manufactured in-house and shaped in characteristic “Strehler” style, the steel hands are hand-polished. The stainless-steel crown bears a blue titanium insert.

The Sirna is powered by a new automatic movement that blends technical and aesthetic refinement, the SA-30 movement (where 30 stands for its diameter of 30 mm) entirely developed, manufactured and finished in-house. 

Regulated by a swiss lever escapement special to Strehler and a large free-sprung balance wheel, the SA-30 operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 60 hours built by its skeletonised 18k gold rotor.

The impeccable finishes – chamfered and polished bevels, circular Geneva stripes, graining, or circular-grained wheels – can be appreciated through the exhibition caseback. 

Complemented by a supple brown calfskin leather strap with off-white stitching and secured to the wrist by a steel pin buckle, the Strehler Sirna is priced at CHF 20,000, excluding VAT and local taxes. The production capacity is estimated to be between 30 to 50 watches per year. strehler.watch
