In pictures: Uncovering the Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar and its Calibre 92

A closer look with a lot of pictures at the Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar and its manufacture movement Calibre 92
Introduced in June 2022 by Glashütte Original, the PanoMaticCalendar is a timepiece that features an annual calendar complication which displays the day and month, taking into account the months with 30 and 31 days. Only once a year, on March 1st, is it necessary to adjust the date.

To offer this sophisticated function, the German brand designed the manufacture Calibre 92, a self-winding movement developed with user friendliness in mind to make the complex mechanisms easy to operate and wear.

Presented together with the red gold version that we reviewed here, the 150-piece limited edition housed in a 42 mm x 12.4 mm platinum case boasts a cut out galvanic black dial that offers glimpses of the mechanics animating the timepiece.

Let's have a closer look at this 7.65-thick movement that, along with the off-centre hour, minute and small seconds displays characteristic of the Pano family, features a Panorama Date, a retrograde month display, and a moon phase indication.

One of Glashütte Original’s trademark features, the Panorama Date appears at 4 o’clock. Thanks to the concentric mounting of two display discs on the same plane, the date can be read at a glance, with no need for a bar separating the digits. The date is adjusted, just like the month, hour, minutes and small seconds, with the help of the crown.

The month wheel at the heart of the movement serves as the "memory" for this function. The cam disc at the top of the wheel completes one revolution per year, and its irregular rim triggers the switching process at the end of the month; its indentations mark the months with 31 days. A small tooth on the underside of the wheel advances the month ring via a gear chain, bringing the retrograde display on the dial side to life.

The retrograde display highlights the current month in a clever way. A curved sapphire crystal window between 3 and 6 o'clock uses numerals to indicate the 12 months.

The crystal is tinted grey, with the sole exception of the month numerals. The indicators on the month ring beneath it, which completes one revolution every four years, ensure in this manner that only one digit at a time is highlighted.

At 2 o'clock, we find the moon phase display representing the earth’s satellite against a sparkling starry sky. A fine-toothed gear guarantees the high precision of the moon phase indication: once correctly set, and assuming that the watch runs continuously, it will not require any manual adjustment for the next 122 years.

On the back, we can admire the state-of-the-art finishes of this 4 Hz manufacture movement with Glashütte stripes finish, beveled edges, blued screws, the hand-engraved balance cock, and the beautifully decorated rotor with an oscillating mass in 21-carat gold.
