Piaget - Polo Perpetual Calendar, new models in rose and white gold

Piaget launched two new versions of the Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-thin, in rose gold and in white gold with obsidian blue dial. Price from €79,500

On the occasion of the Watches and Wonders 2023 exhibition (Geneva, March 27 - April 2), Piaget presented two gold versions of the Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-thin, which follow the inaugural stainless steel edition that we presented here.

Both models come in the signature Polo case blending oblong and round shapes with dynamic lines highlighted by the alternation of satin-brushed and polished surfaces. Measuring 42 mm in diameter and with a thickness of just 8.65 mm, the watches are water resistant up to a pressure of 3  ATM (30 metres / 100 feet).

The first model is dressed in 18K rose gold with a striking dial whose dark emerald-green colour changes in intensity depending on the angle of light that hits the horizontal embossed bars. 

The perpetual calendar indications are displayed by means of the three snailed sub-dials at 9 o'clock (day of the week), 12 o'clock (months and leap year) and 3 o’clock (date) and are complemented by the moonphase indication at 6 o’clock. Assuming that the watch has been kept fully wound, the calendar indications will not require any manual adjustment until the year 2100.

The legibility of the time is excellent thanks to large indices and hour/minute hands, all filled with white Super-LumiNova glowing in blue in the dark.

The second Polo Perpetual Calendar features a white gold case set with 56 brilliant-cut sapphires (approx. 1.88 cts) that frame a blue obsidian dial whose iridescence is due to inclusions that formed when drops of mineral-rich sulfide liquid became trapped in the rock as it solidified. No two stones are alike. 

The deep blue sapphires in the bezel are set in dark claws to further enhance the dial’s fascinating hues. 

The transparent sapphire crystal case backs of the two references reveal the ultra-thin Manufacture 1255P Calibre, a state-of-the-art self-winding movement that has a total thickness of only 4 mm thanks to the use of a micro-rotor. 

The finishes are outstanding, with circular Côtes de Genève, wheels with sunburst motif, engraved coat-of-arms, circular-grained and beveled bridges, blued screws on bridges, and a blue oscillating weight.

Beating at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), this ultra-thin movement guarantees a power reserve of 42 hours.

The watches are delivered with two straps - in rubber and in alligator leather - that can be easily swapped  thanks to a practical interchangeable SingleTouch system that makes it easy to switch between one and the other without needing any tool.
