Explore Armin Strom's Mirrored Force Resonance Manufacture Edition Green, showcasing cutting-edge resonance technology. 50 pieces. Price CHF 63,000
Armin Strom is launching today a new Manufacture Edition of the Mirrored Force Resonance model, one of the very few wristwatches on the market to fully take advantage of the physical phenomenon of resonance to improve accuracy, precision and rate stability (to learn more on this sophisticated horological technique, you can read our feature article: "In pursuit of precision: mechanical resonance and watches").
The implementation developed by the Biel/Bienne-based brand utilizes two independent mainsprings, gear trains, escapements, and balance wheels. And instead of waiting for nature to reach a resonant state between the two balance wheels, the Armin Strom team invented the Resonance Clutch Spring, a special patented spring that connects the hairsprings, thus keeping the two balance wheels in a perfect resonant state.
But this is not the only singularity of their solution. In fact, the beauty of the resonance implementation used by Armin Strom also stands in the possibility to observe this phenomenon, and admire how the two resonant regulators work in a sympathetic manner, while wearing the watch on the wrist.
Indeed, Armin Strom succeeded in creating a wristwatch that leverages resonance to enhance precision and accuracy while also guaranteeing high reliability and offering a mesmerising kinetic spectacle on the dial side.
A limited edition of 50 pieces, the new Mirrored Force Resonance Manufacture Edition Green is characterised by an off-centre, green dial featuring a textured grenage finish that can be admired under the raised sapphire crystal "box" glass, framed by the slim bezel of the 43 mm x 11.55 mm slender stainless steel case.
The pusher at 2 o’clock allows the two running seconds indicators – which rotate in mirrored clockwise and counter-clockwise motions – to be reset to zero and visually track the state of resonance.
The machine-green hue is inspired by some vintage equipment still used alongside contemporary state-of-the-art machinery in Armin Strom’s fully integrated manufacture. Claude Greisler, Armin Strom’s Master Watchmaker and co-founder, explains: “We chose this green because it harmonises with the polished and decorated parts of the open-worked movement. And the grenage finish gives a contrast to the polished indexes. This frizzy, kind of frosted surface reflects some light – but it is not too loud. It doesn’t overwhelm your attention and it shouldn’t compete with the movement.”
The open-worked movement surrounding the green dial highlights Armin Strom's watchmakers' expertise in hand-decoration techniques. The 3D-shaped openworked balance bridges, chamfers, and movement surfaces undergo manual polishing and finishing with frosted, perlaged, or circular-grained textures.
The transparent case back showcases the engraved main plate and the bas-relief text outlining the unique features of the Mirrored Force Resonance. The symmetry of the movement is further highlighted by the mirrored layout of its open bridges and gears. The movement is manually assembled twice to guarantee no-compromise quality.
With a frequency of 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour), the Manufacture ARF21 Calibre boasts a power reserve of 48 hours. This is made possible by the presence of two skeletonised mainspring barrels, which can be observed as they wind simultaneously.
Water resistant up to a pressure of 3 ATM (approximately corresponding to a depth 30 metres / 100 feet), the watch is matched to a grey Alcantara strap with white stitching and double folding clasp in stainless steel.
The price of the new Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Manufacture Edition Green ref. ST22-RF.20 is CHF 63,000 / Euro 70,000 / US$ 63,000. arminstrom.com
