Mido unveiled a new special edition of its Ocean Star GMT model launched in 2020 (you can read our presentation article here). The new Ocean Star GMT Special Edition is characterised by an intense blue dial enlivened by red accents and the contrast between the velvety surface of the dial and the gleaming blue ceramic of the unidirectional rotating bezel that can be used to track elapsed time.

The diamond-cut hands with central grooves indicate the hours and minutes in the first time zone. A red varnished and arrow-tipped hand points towards the flange of the dial, which is marked with 24 hour intervals, indicating the second time zone. The red and blue background colours of the flange indicate day-time and night-time hours, respectively.

Hands and indexes are treated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability in darker environments.

Protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, the dial is completed by the date aperture at 3 o'clock.

Offering water-resistance up to 20 bar (200 metres / 660 feet) thanks to its screwed case back and crown, the 44 mm stainless steel case alternates satin-finished and polished surfaces and is equipped with a steel bracelet that, for the first time, incorporates a bar with a spur system making it easy to swap for the second Nato-style fabric strap, featuring blue, red and white stripes, that comes in the presentation box.

Under the caseback engraved with the 24 main time zones, the self-winding Caliber 80 beats at the frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) with an autonomy of 80 hours of power reserve.

Although not visible, its components are finely decorated in line with watchmaking tradition, with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo on the oscillating weight.
