Hands-on review MeisterSinger Classic N.03 40mm. Single-hand watch. The MeisterSinger Classic N.03 40mm retails at €1790. MeisterSinger 2022 novelties
The Classic No.03 is one of the pillars of MeisterSinger's collection of single-hand watches.
This award-winning model combines the aesthetic principles of the modern single-hand watch, that the German watchmaker introduced with the No.01 timepiece, with the advantages of an automatic movement.
Last May, MeisterSinger launched a revamped version of the 40 mm version of the Classic No.03 making it available in two variations, with black (ref. DM902C) or ivory dial (ref. DM903C). Following our introductory article, we are now delighted to share our hands-on review of the reference with ivory dial.
Compared to the 43 mm version, the Classic No.03 40 mm is not only three millimeters smaller in diameter, it is also more than one millimeter flatter. The result is a more discreet and elegant timepiece.
The lines of the streamlined stainless steel case are well highlighted by the alternation of satin-brushed and polished surfaces. The crown is adorned with an embossed MeisterSinger logo, the musical notation for a pause. Water resistance is 50 metres / 165 feet.
Thanks to its ideal size and curved lugs, the watch sits comfortably on the wrist, well secured by a dark brown vegan strap with a steel pin buckle engraved with the brand's logo.
In line with the sustainability concept, this vegan strap is made of apple fiber that is very similar to natural leather in terms of quality, look and comfort.
After the Special Edition Planet Earth developed with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), the N°03 40 mm is the first series watch from MeisterSinger to feature this kind of strap that, together with an environment-friendly packaging, will be extended to all of the other watches of the brand from now on.
Protected by a domed sapphire crystal, the dial showcases all the aesthetic principles that characterize the entire collection: the functional typography with its complete set of double-digit hour numerals, the circumferential five-minute divisions and, above all, the single, needle-fine hour hand which, in this case, stands out in black against the ivory background.
The classic look of this model is enhanced by the fine serif font of the numerals while the orange accents used for the 30-minute intervals, the date circle at 6 o'clock and the stitches of the strap add a vibrant touch of colour.
Reading the time is easy and even fun once you get accustomed to the concept of a single hand sweeping over the 12 hours divided by 144 markers, each representing 5 minutes.
The 6 screws sapphire crystal caseback provides a view of the automatic movement - a modified Swiss-made Sellita SW200 beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) - that draws its power from the activity of the wearer.
The centrally mounted oscillating rotor engraved with the logo of the brand can be observed as it transmits its energy to the mainspring barrel, which can accumulate up to 38 hours of power reserve.
The high quality of the timepiece is evidenced by the care for details, the accurate finishing but also by the good sensations experienced while winding the watch or adjusting the time. In fact, the dial train with spring wheel enables the hour hand to rotate with extreme precision.
The new MeisterSinger Classic No.03 40 mm has a suggested retail price of Euro 1,790. meistersinger.com
