The new Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 41.5 has a price of CHF 34,500 in rose gold or CHF 46,500 in platinum.

Arnold & Son presented two new interpretations of its Perpetual Moon model characterised by new dials featuring the typical giant moon and a new decoration pattern, known as Stellar Rays, obtained through engraved rays of different depth and width enhanced by several layers of transparent lacquer.

The Perpetual Moon 41.5 Red Gold joins the permanent collection while the Perpetual Moon 41.5 Platinum is produced in a limited edition of just 28 timepieces.

Their cases and lugs have been streamlined and, thanks to a narrower bezel, the diameter has been reduced from 42 mm to 41.5 mm without affecting the size of the dial. The thickness of the watch, including the domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, is 11.3 mm.

The red gold version is matched to a deep blue dial adorned with gold edging on the moon aperture, together with golden hands and hour markers. 

The platinum edition is coupled with a salmon pink whose soft metallic radiance complements the rhodium-plated details.

The large photorealistic moon is enhanced with a luminescent material that is particularly intense in darkness yet invisible in daylight, giving way to the white mother-of-pearl disc. It is set against a blue PVD-treated grained sky and surrounded by the constellations of the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia, also hand-painted and coated with Super-LumiNova.

The constellations have been chosen as a direct reference to John Arnold’s history as a maker of naval chronometers as the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia have always been used by navigators in the northern hemisphere to find their bearings and locate the North Star (Polaris). The position of the latter defines the North and its angular altitude, or position in the North-South plane, and allows the distance to the equator, i.e., latitude, to be estimated.

When you turn the watch, the transparent sapphire crystal reveals the hand-wound A&S1512 calibre, entirely developed, manufactured, decorated, assembled, adjusted and cased at the Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The calibre features two barrels and an oscillation frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), providing a power reserve of 90 hours.

A special indicator allows the moon phase to be adjusted intuitively and with extreme precision. 

A fine-toothed gear guarantees the high precision of the moon phase indication: once correctly set, and assuming that the watch runs continuously, it will not require any manual adjustment for the next 122 years.
