5 of the most innovative and original chronographs currently available on the market. New mechanical chronographs 2022. 5 best chronographs
The chronograph is one the most appreciated complications featured in modern wristwatches.
Some of the most popular and successful chronographs - including the Omega Speedmaster, the Rolex Daytona, the TAG Heuer Monaco or the Zenith El Primero - were designed in the late 1950s and 1960s and defined the classic style of chronographs, inevitably influencing the majority of watches featuring this specific complication.
To be original and creative in this field is indeed pretty challenging. In this short article, we highlight 5 of the most innovative and unusual - technically and aesthetically - chronographs that are currently available on the market. They are listed alphabetically, not in order of preference.
Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic
Announced as the thinnest tourbillon chronograph wristwatch ever produced, this record-breaking timepiece comes in a 42 mm x 7.40 mm grade 5 titanium case with a sandblasted finish. Crown, pushers and the integrated bracelet with folding clasp are also made of titanium.
The chronograph start, stop, and reset function are controlled by the pusher at 2 o'clock while the one at 4 o'clock is used to switch between two functions of the crown - winding and time setting - by means of the tiny column wheel on the right side of the tourbillon. Read the full article.
Cyrus Klepcys DICE Double Independent Chronograph Evolution
The Swiss manufacture that created the first vertical tourbillon was also the first to introduce a double independent chronograph. The DICE acronym actually means Double Independent Chronograph Evolution.
Differently from a rattrapante chronograph that can measure two events that start simultaneously but end at different times or indicate an intermediate elapsed time, the Klepcys DICE can measure elapsed times even with different starting times. And, with its two symmetrical crowns at 3 and 9 o'clock, the cushion-shaped case of the Klepcys seems just perfect for a double independent chronograph. Read the full article.
H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Flyback Chronograph
Presented as a chronograph which displays the time rather than a watch which features a chronograph, the Streamliner features a steel cushion case in stainless steel with integrated bracelet.
The Streamliner is the first automatic chronograph with a central display to feature a flyback function for the minutes and seconds. Read the full article.
MB&F Legacy Machine Sequential EVO
For their first-ever chronograph, MB&F reinvented the classic chronograph complication by incorporating into a single movement two column-wheel chronographs, along with a groundbreaking “Twinverter” binary switch.
The result is a chronograph allowing multiple timing modes including split-second, independent and lap timer modes – a combination never seen before in any existing chronograph. Read the full article.
Singer Reimagined Flytrack Prime Edition
With the Flytrack, Singer Reimagined brought to the market a minimalistic, yet sophisticated, interpretation of the chronograph housed in a sporty Grade 5 titanium case.
Thanks to a proprietary solution, the central sweeping seconds hand can be instantly converted into a flyback chronograph-hand making it possible to measure multiple, sequential events by simply using the push-button at 2 o’clock and without interfering with the watch timekeeping.
