Jaeger-LeCoultre - Master Control Memovox Timer Boutique Edition

Jaeger-LeCoultre launched the new Master Control Memovox Timer Boutique Edition ref. Q410257J at a retail price of €35,400.

Jaeger‑LeCoultre designed the Memovox in 1950 with the idea to help businessmen to remember their meetings thanks to its chiming function. Over the decades, various functions were added to create different Memovox models.

After the launch of the new-generation Memovox equipped with an entirely new alarm-setting mechanism in 2020 (we wrote about it here), La Grande Maison is now presenting the Master Control Memovox Timer, a new aesthetic interpretation in pink gold that will be produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces available exclusively from the boutiques of the brand.

The readability of the dial is enhanced by the contrast of the black sunray-brushed background with the grey of the outer minutes ring and the alarm-indication disc.

The innermost ring is engraved in bas-relief with highly polished numerals that stand out clearly against the granular texture of the background. 

The Timer function enables the watch owner to set the alarm based on the number of hours that should elapse before the alarm rings as indicated by the small hand tipped with a red JL logo. 

The alarm can also be set in the traditional way, based on a particular time (such as a wake-up alarm), using the Memovox’s signature triangular marker set at the outer edge of the ring.

The indicators are linked, so that whichever alarm-setting method is chosen, the second indicator will automatically move to the corresponding position.

The elongated triangular shape of the applied hour indexes is beautifully matched to elegant Dauphine hands filled with Super-LumiNova that glows in green in poor light environments.

The lines of the 40 mm x 12.39 mm pink gold case - characterised by sloping bezels, curved lugs and the two typical crowns - are highlighted by the alternation of polished and satin-brushed surfaces.

 

Guaranteeing an autonomy of 44 hours, the self-winding Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 956AA is visible through a transparent sapphire crystal instead of being hidden behind a solid caseback as in the original Memovox. This way, the owner of the watch can enjoy watching the hammer in action. 

In common with other chiming watches, an alarm mechanism has a hammer and gong; however, its particular technical challenge is that the hammers must strike the gong multiple times at very high speed, for a relatively extended period.  

Thanks to the open-worked pink gold rotor, decorated with Côtes de Genève, the movement can be observed in all its details. The signature “school bell” sound of the alarm remains unchanged.
