Hands-on review of the Nomos Glashütte Tangente neomatik platinum gray 39mm and 35mm versions with prices starting from €2,440/$3,070
The collection is now expanding with the new Tangente neomatik platinum gray, a new interpretation of this iconic watch characterised by the platinum tones of the rhodium-plated dial whose galvanization process produces an extra saturated light gray dial colour.
This stylish and versatile model is offered in two case variations: 39 mm and 35 mm. We had the possibility to spend a few days with both of them and we are now delighted to share our pictures and impressions.
Crafted from stainless steel with an elegant polished finish, the coin-shaped case with almost no bezel has a bipartite construction and guarantees waterproofness to 5 ATM, which makes the watch suitable for showering. The edgy lugs further contribute to add character to the timepiece.
Exact measures of the two models are 38.5 mm x 6.9 mm for the larger one and 35 mm x 6.7 mm for the other. Despite the different sizes, the two watches maintain the same nice proportions thanks to the slimness of the ultra thin neomatik movement (3.2 mm) that we will describe in detail later.
Both models are very comfortable on the wrist and the choice between the two models is really a matter of personal taste and wrist size (the wrist in our pictures is 18cm / 7in).
Completed by rhodium-plated needle-thin hour and minutes hands, a snailed small seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock and the renowned Tangente typography, the refined dial offers excellent legibility at first glance. The "neomatik" inscription in yellow adds a touch of colour.
Just like the front side, the back side is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that makes it possible to explore the details of the in-house neomatik caliber DUW 3001: the typical three-quarter plate architecture, the ribbing polish and the thermally-blued screws as well as the tempered blue balance spring denoting the Nomos escapement. This proprietary swing system, which gives this model the additional title of ‘neomatik’, ensures the high precision and reliability of the movement. The bidirectional winding rotor is enriched by gold-plated embossing.
The caseback of the 39 mm version and, below, the 35 mm.
Beating at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vph), the DUW 3001 features a stop-seconds mechanism and incabloc shock protection. The power reserve is approximately 42 hours.
Although it is a pleasure to admire the beautiful finishes of this ultra-thin self-winding movement, some customers might prefer a solid caseback for the possibility to engrave a message or a date. For this reason, Nomos decided to offer also this option, a first for the neomatik models.
The watches are completed by black remborde straps crafted from Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan with polished steel pin buckles engraved with the logo of the brand.
Delivered in an elegant full grain leather wallet, the new Nomos Tangente neomatik platinum gray offers great value combining a distinctive style, flawless finishes and a high-quality in-house manufacture movement.
Prices of the 39 mm models are Euro 2,580 / US$ 3,390 with stainless steel back (ref. 143) or Euro 2,880 / US$ 3,780 with sapphire crystal glass back (ref. 144). The smaller 35 mm versions retail at Euro 2,440 / US$ 3,070 with stainless steel back (ref. 188) or Euro 2,740 / US$ 3,460 with sapphire crystal glass back (ref. 189). nomos-glashuette.com
I think a Nomos will be my next watch.
