Our hands-on review of the new DOXA SUB 600T. DOXA has once again hit the target, a diver's watch with an excellent price/quality ratio. Price: €1,450
Following the launch of the new DOXA SUB 600T Collection last week (our overview here), we are now delighted to go more in depth with one of the 24 possible model variations, the SUB 600T Caribbean with blue dial, ceramic bezel insert and rubber strap.
The most striking detail when you handle this professional diver's watch is without doubt the case design.
In fact, its 40 mm x 14.15 mm case is crafted from a hefty chamfered block of 316L stainless steel - a steel that offers excellent resistance to corrosion - with straight angles which give this model a truly unique look. Its lines are well highlighted by the alternation of sandblasted and polished surfaces.
Positioned at 4 o'clock for improved comfort, the screwed-down and sealed crown contributes to guarantee a remarkable pressure resistance of up to 60 bar (approximately 600 metres / 2,000 feet)!
In position 0 the crown is tightly screwed down against the case. By unscrewing it, you can wind the watch in position 1, set the date in position 2, and set the time in position 3.
The unidirectional bezel offers a patented dual indication of the dive time (minutes) and depth (feet) that makes it possible to calculate the safe dive time for a given depth without a decompression stop during the return to the surface. Its large size contributes to improved handling, even with a gloved hand.
The outer ring shows given dive depths in feet (FT). The inner ring shows the time in minutes at the depths indicated above on the outer ring. The descent marker (the large arrow) is used to set the watch for the dive duration starting at the current time. Moving very precisely thanks to its perceptible 120 clicks, the bezel can be ordered either with a blue ceramic insert (like in the model used for our review) or with a sandblasted steel insert.
A flat sapphire crystal protects a matte blue dial that, despite the relatively small diameter of the watch, (the smallest in the DOXA catalogue), offers optimal readability with its large minute hand painted in orange.
The three hands, the bezel descent marker and the indices, including the ‘shark tooth’ markers at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock, are generously treated with a Super-LumiNova coating that glows in blue in darker environments.
A date aperture at 3 o'clock completes the dial indications.
The case back is beautifully decorated by a three-dimensional "DOXA fish" symbol that remarks the special link of the brand with the sea world.
Inside, we find the Swiss automatic Sellita SW 200-1 mechanical calibre that guarantees precision and reliability beating at the frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with an autonomy of 38 hours.
The model used for our review was matched to a blue strap made of FMK rubber (also known as fluoro rubber) which offers a wide range of excellent properties including resistance to chemical agents, temperature variations, and deformations. It is secured to the wrist by a refined folding buckle with the recurring "DOXA fish" symbol. The lug width is 20 mm.
With the new SUB 600T, DOXA has once again hit the target, bringing to the market a diver's watch with great character, remarkable performances and an excellent price/quality ratio.
