Blancpain is expanding the Bathyscaphe line of its Fifty Fathoms collection with a new model in a high-end titanium alloy.

Blancpain have been using titanium since the early 1960s in a special series of Fifty Fathoms MILSPEC II models made for US Navy bomb disposal teams. But this is the first time that this material is used for a Bathyscaphe model.

Titanium offers properties that are ideal for a diver's watch, including high resistance to shock, pressure and corrosion with the additional benefit of being particularly light thanks to its low density.

In particular, the 43 mm x 13.45 mm satin-brushed case of the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe in titanium ref. 5000-1210 is made of Grade 23 titanium, an alloy containing aluminium and vanadium that, although rarely used in the watch industry because it requires long and challenging machining work, guarantees greater resistance to fatigue and unique biocompatibility.

Water-resistant to 30 bar (approximately 300 metres / 1,000 feet), the case is equipped with a unidirectional titanium bezel with ceramic insert and Liquidmetal markers that frames an anthracite-coloured dial featuring a hand-crafted vertical satin finish. Its matt surface offers an ideal background for the luminescent baton-type hands and geometric hour-markers. 

The watch is powered by the automatic Calibre 1315 beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and featuring three series-coupled mainspring barrels for a remarkable five-day power reserve.

This movement is fitted with a balance-spring in silicon that is particularly resistant to shocks and magnetic fields for improved isochronism and, consequently, precision. 

The transparent sapphire caseback makes it possible to appreciate the high level of finishing of the snailed and chamfered bridges as well as of the sandblasted, satin-finished and snailed gold oscillating weight engraved with the Blancpain logo.

The Bathyscaphe in titanium can be matched to a grade 23 satin-finished titanium bracelet or to a NATO or anthracite sailcloth strap.
