Introduced in 2020 as a concept watch (you can read about it here), the Central Impulse Chronometer by Bernhard Lederer has now taken its final form and is available in two limited series in white gold, 25 with a rhodium-plated dial and 25 in blue.

The result of ten years of research and development, this high-performance chronometer comes in a 44 mm gray gold case with domed sapphire crystals on both sides for a total thickness of 12.2 mm.

The dial is characterised by two synchronized seconds hands moving in opposite directions and displayed within two intersecting circular apertures forming the figure eight. 

The innovative Calibre 9012 combines a new double impulse escapement with constant force and a double gear train, all staged in the three-dimensional structure of this hand-wound movement.

Two independent escapement wheels installed at the end of two separate gear trains, each with its own barrel and its own 10-second remontoir d'égalité (a constant-force mechanism), operate in alternation connected to an anchor whose profile is one of a kind. In fact, the geometry of the central pallet is concave thus reducing the contact surface and the internal friction of the escapement.

Another innovation introduced by the Central Impulse Chronometer is the use of titanium for the components instead of steel. This way, the moving parts are much lighter and have less inertia, which enables them to restart more quickly and consume less energy. As a result, the impulses generated by the escapement wheel to the balance wheel are optimized in order to ensure isochronism and therefore movement precision.

Beating at the frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and offering a power reserve of 42 hours, the Calibre 9012 is enhanced by a frosted finish with hand-beveled bridges, wheels with circular graining and hand-beveled spokes. It is certified as a chronometre by the Besançon Observatory and COSC.
