Andersen Genève completes the celebration with the Jumping Hours 40th Anniversary in Platinum, a special edition limited to just 40 pieces.

Following the rose gold model presented in 2020 to mark the 40th anniversary of the brand, Andersen Genève completes the celebrations with the Jumping Hours 40th Anniversary in Platinum, a special edition limited to just 40 pieces.

The creation of the new model in platinum 950 is even more challenging because platinum is an arduous material to work with. Just to make an example, for this edition the lugs had to be machined separately and then welded to the case barrel.

The 38 mm x 9.2 mm case frames a special dial featuring a “magic losange” hand guilloché pattern engraved into a surface made from 21ct BlueGold. To achieve this alloy that few brands use in watchmaking, 24ct gold has to be mixed with iron elements and heated in an oven, turning it a radiant shade of blue. 

The jumping hour is indicated through a window at 12 o’clock, while the minutes tick on a sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Two plaques inscribed with “1980” and “2020” mark the company’s first 40 years.

The decoration is particularly difficult to create. Three different machines are required to build up the detailed “magic losange” pattern, whose appearance changes constantly as the light catches it from different angles.

The transparent sapphire glass caseback showcases the Frédéric Piguet 11.50 double barrel automatic movement with “Jumping Hours” mechanism developed and manufactured at Andersen Genève.

Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz) with a power reserve of 60 hours, the movement is visually enhanced by polished screws and the “anglage” of several parts. The 18ct yellow gold rotor is decorated with a “grain d’orge” hand guilloché pattern and the “A” of Andersen Genève.
