M.A.D.Editions - M.A.D.1 watch

The M.A.D.1 watch that we are presenting in this article is not on sale but a variation of it might become available on the market in 2022.

It is a special timepiece that Maximilian Busser, the founder of the high-end independent watchmaking brand MB&F (Maximilian Busser & Friends), created to thank the people that contributed to the success of his brand. 

Manufactured through a second label named M.A.D.Edition, this model will be reserved to the “Friends” of the brands - more than 100 talented suppliers that help crafting dials, hands, cases, escapements, and other components - and to “The Tribe”, the club of the owners of the Horological Machines and Legacy Machines produced by MB&F.

Busser explains: "I have always wanted to create pieces for my friends and family. Also, I must admit that there is an enormous intellectual challenge in trying to create something original at those lower price points: the technical constraints are immense and completely different to ultra-high end pieces like MB&F. And as usual, I love learning and getting out of my creative comfort zone."

The case structure and time display of the M.A.D.1 watch are definitely unusual, with an upside-down movement featuring the titanium and tungsten rotor on top and revolving hour and minute rings around the case.

The movement is a modified Miyota which offers reasonable pricing together with a unidirectional winding system that allows the rotor to spin easily and at high speed. 

The price of CHF 1,900 excluding VAT reserved to the Friends and The Tribe does not reflect the real value or the cost of the M.A.D.1 watch so, if a variation of this model should become actually available in 2022, you might expect a price in the CHF 4,000 range. mbandf.com and madgallery.net
