While maintaining many design elements already seen in the reference 5303R-001, with the new Grand Complication ref. 5304/301R Minute Repeater Retrograde Perpetual Calendar, Patek Philippe takes a further step by combining a retrograde perpetual calendar to a minute repeater and offering a view of the complex mechanisms through a transparent sapphire dial.

The 43 mm x 13.3 mm rose gold case is enhanced by white gold inserts, engraved with a “leaf” pattern, and 80 baguette-cut diamonds (~6.22 cts) to decorate bezel, lugs and fold-over clasp. The "leaf" motif is used also for the slide on the left that activates the minute repeater.

To display day, month and leap-year cycle, Patek Philippe uses very thin transparent sapphire disks, with three gold apertures framing white indications that become clearly readable against a black background. 

In order not to obstruct the view of the movement, the leaf-shaped hands in black lacquered white gold are skeletonized.

The current date is indicated, on a scale around the dial circumference, by a hand tipped by a red half-moon.

The perpetual calendar indications are completed, at 6 o'clock, by a moon phase display integrated by running seconds.

The sapphire crystal caseback showcases the 3 Hz (21,600 vph) caliber R 27 PS QR LU and the minute repeater mechanism striking on two gongs. The “leaf” motif is repeated in the off-center rose gold mini-rotor. Comprised of 517 meticulously-finished components, this self-winding movement offers a power reserve of 38 (min) to 48 hours (max).
