In 2021, MB&F celebrates 10 years of Legacy Machines with the new LMX. In titanium or red gold prices of CHF 98,000 and CHF 112,000

MB&F (Maximilian Büsser & Friends) began creating unconventional timepieces in 2005 with its Horological Machines, designed as if they were coming from an imagined future. 10 years ago, in 2011, the Swiss brand added a second collection called Legacy Machines. In this case, the inspiration came from an imagined past, trying to figure out what MB&F would have created a century ago.

In 2021, MB&F celebrates 10 years of Legacy Machines with the new LMX, a creation that takes inspiration from the Legacy Machine N°1 and its central flying balance wheel and two dials.

Under the convex sapphire crystal dome, we find two dials of stretched white lacquer, each with its own display of hours and minutes. The dial on the right is set by the crown at the 2 o’clock position. Engraved with the MB&F battle-axe, this crown also winds the movement. The other crown at 10 o’clock, is engraved with a globe to remind the possibility to use it for indicating a second time zone, sets the time of the left dial. 

Both dials are tilted at an angle, a feature that requires a complex technical solution to transfer of energy from horizontal to vertical planes thanks to conical gears.

Three large wheels are visible: placed next to each winding crown, two large wheels are set in motion when setting the time on the corresponding time display, while the gear at 6 o’clock is the common seconds’ wheel.

Slowly beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, the 13.4 mm balance wheel with inertia blocks marks a departure from the traditional screwed balances offering greater accuracy in regulating it.

The remarkable seven-day (168 hours) power reserve is indicated by means of a 3D display that gives the option to select between two modes of counting down the remaining autonomy. Two markers are positioned on opposite sides of a hemisphere; one framed by an arched scale numbered 1 to 7, another with a scale showing the days of the week.

The entire power-reserve display can rotate, thus making it possible to choose the preferred type of indication.

The movement, or "engine" as MB&F calls it, of the LMX is symmetrical on both sides. The transparent sapphire crystal case back reveals the three barrels placed evenly around the centre and put in full evidence by the sunray pattern of the Côtes de Genève finishing.

Measuring 44 mm in diameter and 21.4 mm of thickness, the MB&F LMX is available in two limited launch editions: 33 pieces in grade 5 titanium with green CVD treatment on plates and bridges and 18 pieces in 18k red gold with black NAC treatment on plates and bridges, with prices of CHF 98,000 and CHF 112,000 (excluding sales taxes), respectively. mbandf.com
